@Samar3n synthesis for me stand against everything i alias shepard fight for....theres once the big alien Race that wants to destroy and consume all and in the end you can forcefully decide for a entire galaxy to live as hybrids? never ever would do that...

also all the reaper creatures...totaly destroyed and corrupted? do they want to live as something like that? would a HUSK be proud about shepard to give him such kind of life?

no as hard as it is destruction is the one true end.

and even the catalyst says " every synthetic live will be destroyed....but you can rebuild"

that doesnt mean EDI and Joker are having a late happy ending.....and it hurts me to hurt joker in this way to a spawn..even legion and the geth....but i always think and thought they find a way

so destruction it is...

I know people say this is the worst ending ever in gaming history, but here's why it's actually amazing.

1. It's beautifully written. The music, the setting, seeing your squadmates standing around was just so fucking emotional.

2. The extended cut wraps up questions left unanswered. What happened to the galaxy? What happened to your crew? Is Shepard actually dead? Answered

3. Endings are never easy to accept. This was the ending to a beautiful story with a fandom raising high expectations. What ending could they have gone with just as emotional while still pleasing people? They couldn't, so they decided to go with an ending leaving room for people to make their own.

4. It fits in with Mass Effect's tone. ME is not a rainbows and sunshine game. It's heartbreaking, emotional, and dramatic. Were people honestly expecting it to end with Shepard and Garrus sitting on a beach, drinking beer, overlooking a crashed reaper or something? It's only fitting that the hero makes a heroic sacrifice. And if you go with Destroy with 5000 military strength, they actually live.

What people are angry about is that the endings doesn't reflect the choices made at the other previous mass effect games. Sure, the ending is nice if you're talking about the ending alone. But if you're including how the choices and how much they made an impact to the ending, then the ending of mass effect 3 is bad. The choices have some impact alright, but it wasn't that much. What people are expecting is an ending similar to the curing of the genophage. How so? Consider this.
1) Wrex lives in ME1, saved Maelon's data in ME2, didn't sabotage the cure in ME3 = Krogan full support all the way but less Salarian support. The Krogan will also reform under Wrex and Bakara's leadership.
2) Wrex lives in ME1, didn't save Maelon's data in ME2, didn't sabotage the cure in ME3 = Same as with the one above except Bakara will die.
3) Same scenarios with the first two BUT you sabotage the cure in ME3 = Krogan support withdrawn and you're forced to kill Wrex. But max Salarian support. Krogans become extinct after the war.
4) Wrex dies in ME1, saved Maelon's data in ME2, didn't sabotage the cure in ME3 = Krogan support under Wreav but he will seek revenge after the Reaper War. Bakara opposes him and a Krogan civil war occurs. Less Salarian support
5) Wrex dies in ME1, didn't save Maelon's data in ME2, didn't sabotage the cure in ME3 = Krogan support under Wreav and he will seek revenge after the Reaper War. This time, no one opposes him and another war against the Krogan will happen again repeating the Krogan Rebellions. Less Salarian support
6) Same scenarios with 4 and 5 but you sabotage the cure in ME3 = Krogan support all the way under Wreave plus max Salarian support but Krogan becomes extinct after the Reaper War.

See how each decision can greatly affect the outcome? Mordin's fate will also be different for each scenarios. I just didn't include it there. What people want is an ending that's far greater and diverse than this. People want to have endings wherein their choices GREATLY matter (emphasis on that word). ME3 doesn't have that ending. Your choices only boils down to how much EMS you'll have and three rainbow colored galaxy wherein your previous decision doesn't even matter. That's not a case wherein your choices made a big impact. You can even increase your EMS ratings by playing multiplayer. How can you say that your choices have made a big impact if it only increases your EMS ratings which it in itself can be increased by playing multiplayer? Sure, not all choices must have a big impact, but almost all, if not all of your major choices should have a big impact. Not just some EMS rating that can be increased through multiplayer. Look at the genophage example I gave above. An ending more diverse than that is what people want. It has to be because Mass Effect is a game of choice. And it's not just one game. It's a trilogy. The ending doesn't have to be a masterpiece. It only needs to show that your previous choices greatly mattered. But it didn't. That's why the ending is bullshit. I'm sorry, but you can't justify that the ending of ME3 is beautiful just with the points that you have given out. It will work on other games, but not on ME3.

@MCP/ChronicBuzz Mass effect/dragon age was bioware writing at its best but espegially ME stands out for me because of lines like this. Not to draw comparisons as both are great but the deep subjects and thoughtful dialogue ME series introduced was something I had never experienced before in gaming

@Contraband42
"I'm free.... but alone...."
"You're not an object EDI, you're a person and you're not alone"

Damn this game was good. And it held wisdom like few other.

That's the line that stand out for me always. the hug from EDI is a great way to end the Synthesis ending

Robin The Tactician

In my opinion, Shepard's death is one of the saddest things to ever happen in any series. He/she is one of the greatest protagonist that have ever existed.
