MrRyanthusar - they didn't mattered from beggining of game ... look at auto dialogue and how you have no choice at all. 2 dialogue options ? Seriously ? Where is the trial promised from BRIDGING DLC !?
Your Shepard DID NOT - I repeat - DID NOT behaved like Shepard, at all.
I was mad when she was questioning that she don't want to leave Earth.
I didn't cared about Earth before and I don't care now.
Instead of being worried about actual Galaxy Shepard is there forced to be this stubborn dumb heroine who just refuse to leave someone behind. You have no freedom of role play here ! At all !
Also additional slap to people who made Anderson a Council member.
He is now just this army buddy who will be additional 'damsel in distress' due to being too stubborn.
There are so many slaps and missed opportunities, so many things were just missing replaced with GoW styled of game and ripped off Deus Ex ending which you mentioned. It didn't made ANY sense.
Let me look at some rewrites also known as disrespect for role play choices.

1) Romanced Thane who didn't want to die back in ME2 is now at Citadel (full of WATER !!!) perfectly fine with waiting to die. What. The. FUCK. Oh and despite him being near grave Alliance was so full of shit that they forbade Shepard from contacting him. Wonderfull.
Also bonus for living on Citadel where he has literally windows on huge lake.
Plus bonus Keprall for Kolyat since he also lives there ... in place full of water ...

2) Mordin, not only our genius frog with ADHD didn't used his genius to either challenge Keprall Syndrome for Thane and drells in general (they would be helpfull in war as asset but nooo ....), or finish his idea of cure for that idiot Joker .... but now our crazy frog is big hypocrite and not so genius, at all.
sigh He wastes 6 MONTHS on finishing cure to which he already had plans and progress from Maelon (plus bonus of hypocritism why Maelon is NOT bringed to help Mordin) but also ... still tells everyone that he is NOT supporting Maelon despite doing EXACLY what he did but with better equipment and better resources (the reason why Maelon was so bad - he didn't had those).

3) Samara, sooo ... she can decide when to listen to her Code or not ? And she gone to Monastery for Ardnat-Yakshi which were far more plenty than was told in ME 2 (*sigh*) and for her daughters ?
Okay, so why MY Shepard has to drag HER DAUGHTER from danger if her only goal here was TO SAVE Falere and Rila ??? And then she commits suicide (or not ...) because she can't follow the Code ?
If that's the case then why she didn't told Shepard to leave Falere alone so she would die with Rila ??
What was the point of all this ?

These were from top of my head when it comes to rewrites. You can add destruction of both Ashley and Jacob, destructions of arcs for Kasumi, Miranda, Legion (!!!), Jack and so on.

Independent from Reapers, that's how I remember it. Besides, if Geth mind is more independent than collective, how come Legion says he needs to deactivate his individual AI and add it to the collective Geth mind, therefore sacrificing himself as a personality? According to your logic that doesn't make sense.
I never chose green ending, I only played once, still there WERE Geth in the ending cut-scenes.

Anyway, like I said, sacrifices had to be made.
Entire series were about Reapers being the ultimate destruction, the inevitable end. Did you people really expect to defeat them with no aftermath, riding out on a white horse into the sunset? Leave that bullshit to the 80s naive action movies, I prefer real ending with the most logical outcome.
I can argue about "trouble" for races on stranded planets. Being stuck on a stranded island is better than drown in the ocean. You gave them hope and chance to survive. Besides Extended Cut had quite a good explanation of how many races started to rebuild Mass Relays - slowly but surely.

There are SOME people who liked it. However there are FAR MORE people who hated it. Like my brother for example - his reaction was so bad that he started to scream at screen and was doing major rage. I was confused with mixation of shock and disbelief. Then came grief ... all these games, all these themes, all these characters which I cared about, both mine Shepard's just .. gone.
This ending was that terrible. And I played at premiere, it was THE ORIGINAL ending. All choices were rightfully pointed out as meaningless because it literally DESTROYED Milky Way.
You liked Turians ? Hehe .. gone. Poof ! Turians and their system is gone. You were happy for Rannoch ? Poof gone. You were glad you finally saved Geth and Krogans ? Poof - gone.
Every single animation with low or high meaningless army (there is no pay off for them until EC came) was wiped out because all animations were showing Mass Relays going kaboom ! Just like in Arrival. The same situation. Congratulations naive player, you picked meaningless mumbo jumbo tied color which destoryed universe ?
THAT was the ending. "Pick color in which you will kill everyone".

Ah and let me share my passion for the scene with boy and grandpa - OH MY GOD ARE YOU TELLING ME MY CREW DIED ON THIS PLANET AND THIS IS ALL WHAT'S LEFT ? Look at the moon ! Look at it ! It's the same planet !
They have died there ! Such Tali and Garrus have died there out of starvation !
And Joker well this moron was gone too with his disease.
All what was left was some human crew remains living on this planet to some unknown Reaper-free future trapped on planet with no chance of getting away !
No only EC was showing that your crew did NOT died there.
The original ending not only contradicted itself - the grandpa and child SHOULD NOT exist anymore (mass relays exploded everywhere and Normandy was going to some place which Hackett picked), my companions being teleported from behind my back onto Normandy, and I don't remember Hackett entire mention of this escape point in original. So it was like Joker just going rogue.
EC changed a little but at least some things got fixed. No Casey I DON'T appreaciate Shepard for no reason at all thinking about LIARA ... while she was romanced by Garrus or Thane. Seriously.

But after all these years with EC this ending is still the top of iceberg which is ME 3. This game ... had potential. Had it. And it was wasted. With exception of few brilliant ideas (meeting Vendetta was good, Javik is absolute game saviour since playing ME 3 was tragedy overall, gunplay was the best here, oh and scene with Kalros was cool, Leviathan and Citadel are good dlc's) all the rest is SO BAD that this game needs a REBOOT. It NEEDS it.
Instead of value your choices, your role play, value the previous parts, value what person you want Shepard to be (auto-dialogue is a crime !!!) .. it was a messy wanna be Gears of War, yeah that's what this game aimed for. NOBODY cared for Earth in ME 1 or 2, they cared about GALAXY.
Now look at WHAT was promotional slogan for ME 3.
And then look how game treats your all choices or characters arcs. Ending was just final insult which broke gates to hell because it literally made NO EXCUSES for rest shitty treatment !

After that final cinematic scene with all the epic music where the Normandy lifts off from that jungle world, this song just starts playing. Completely separate feel from what was happening seconds earlier, and it feels like you're being plunged into cold water. All of the sudden you realize--it's over.
No more 'Can we talk about this later? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.'

Exactly, I didn't know what to do when I finished it for the first time almost three months ago. It was so cool to really BE in the universe, I loved Garrus as a friend and all of the Normandy crew as friends, even the ship itself as a home and Tali as my love. The feels it gave, wow, just wow. My favourite games now, I liked the first game, liked the second game even more, and and loved the third game. I'll never forget them.

oh no, that is not the point. the way they did the so-called different ending was. on top of that, the ending is complete rip-off from deus ex ( the original ). so we basically had a rip-off ending with different insta-gram filters. cheap. too cheap for a game like this, especially when we got the promise that our choices would actually matter in the end. bs.

I just replayed the whole trilogy, all DLCs, everything... I know it's just a video game, but no matter what people say, my time playing it was everything but a waste of time. My life just wouldn't be complete without it, and I'm deam proud of it.

7 years of gaming, first person shooters, strategy, adventure, horror and role playing yet none of them beat the Mass Effect trilogy. Replaying all three plus the DLC's just gives you that satisfied feeling.

I feel that with, very little exception, the mass effect trilogy is by far the most profound, character rich, immersive, detailed, nuanced, engaging, remarkable gaming scifi that I've ever watched or played on, utter masterpiece. Including film & tv. Like countless others, I'm always humbled and reduced to wet eyes at the end when you have to make an impossible choice at the trilogies last playable scene with shepard. Replaying these again and I'm up to early on in mass effect 3. As a big star trek fan, the games remind me if a cross between star trek and bladerunner, certainly in music too. Fave characters were thane, garrus, mordin, miranda, ash, liara, illusive man, jack. Hopefully m.e andromeda will be even better next spring, or as good.

So glad to see such positive vibes in the comments here. The Mass Effect trilogy has had a tremendous impact on every single gamer who's ever played it, & that just goes to show how wonderful an experience it is to play through this amazing story, from beginning to end.

Though Andromeda didn't quite live up to the same hype as its predecessors, this trilogy will always stand as a fine example of what gaming truly means. It's not about multiplayer, "kill streaks", or micro-transactions. Its about epic storylines, mixed with amazing gameplay, & a wonderful cast of characters who you can sincerely call "friends"... No.. "family"!

Thank you, Bioware, for delivering the best sci-fi, action-roleplaying trilogy of all time. I will cherish it until the day I join the Normandy in the stars.

It was one hell of a ride. You start one colony planet and then save up the galaxy from extinction. The ending of this trilogy is really something special.
PS.I am not sure if Mass Effect 4 will be able to satisfy fans.

@Heomji I'm happy this amazing trilogy of games helped you through a difficult time in your life, it did the same for me and no doubt many others, there was a time in my life when I thought I would never see the final game. It's probably something we will never forget. I'm currently half way through the trilogy (again for the umpteenth time) but might hold off finishing it until the rumoured remastered editions are released. I hope Mass Effect 1 is a total remake with combat akin to Mass Effect 3 but I doubt that will happen.

Possibly the best trilogy of games ever, certainly the most character driven and emotional games I've ever played, and at more than twice your age I have been playing games longer than I care to remember :P

I played it for the first time almost three months ago, because I was 2 years old when the first game released, so I was a little too young.
But now that I understand stories, some feelings, and that I'm 15 years old, it just changed me. I was in a difficult period with all my friends, then the quarantine came in France and I discovered the best trilogy of my life. I play video games since a lot of time, my father and two brothers taught me how to play video games on a PC when I was 3. But nothing made me cry and laugh like ME did, it's just wonderful and unbelievable. The story, the universe, races, armors and weapons (I'm a great sci-fi fan so I like to see how every sci-fi universe is deep and interesting etc), scenes and characters... Tali first because I romanced her and loved her, Garrus, Joker, Legion, Thane, Liara, Wrex, Grunt...
I love this trilogy, and I'll fcking never regret or forget it.

I remember when the credits rolled in and all I could think of was 'What...? That's it?' No more adventures with my beloved crew? No more Commander Shepard? Nothing? I felt so sad and hollow... but also incredibly overwhelmed after finishing the trilogy for a week straight. It wasn't just a game. It was (a hell of) an experience. Q_Q

I did my first playthrough during the quarantine, due to Covid-19 pandemic, almost 4 months ago now. And the ending was insane. The whole trilogy was insane.
The story, the dialogues, scenes, soundtrack, and these amazing characters (Tali <3), their sacrifices, the romance, the DLCs, that was... wow.
The best games I ever played.

The Green ending is the one where the Geth and Quarian lives (if you managed to get the good requirements of that).
The Citadel canon destroys/controls all synthetics (or robots).
If you defeated the Reaper and let Legion used the Reaper's brain to upgrade the entire Geth race, the Geth are more independent than collective. Again, Quarian and Geth both lived if you have the requirements from ME2 and ME3.
And no matter what ending you picked, the Mass Relay gets destroyed, which therefore speaks trouble for some races who are stranded on planets unsuitable for their survival, as they cannot make jumps anymore.

Look at Alien VS Predator. First you're saying "WTF is that ?!", and then you see that it was a mistake. A "crossover" has only one effect : ruin the franchises involved within it. BioWare did this so right, I’ve never been so bored with life after playing a game ever, or longing to see more. Especially when I come back to the music and it hits home how much I miss it with all the nostalgia. I miss Mass Effect. I miss it so much.

@MPrime Except the organic vs. synthetic theme was literally straight up INTEGRAL to resolving the Reaper threat. Remember why Reapers came to exist in the first place and you'll know why that is.

Trust me, the ending wasn't that much worse even without the extended cut...for those actually paid attention to the story and could connect the dots on their own.

But no, people who couldn't process the plot had to have the intricacies and implications of the endings spoon-fed to them instead of using their imagination a little, and we got the extended cut.

It was a good ending, but most people hated it because the way it was executed was "simple"(make one of several choices at the last minute), even though it makes perfect sense in-game as to WHY it was that simple.

The worst part about the ME 3 ending is that after they did the extended cut they removed some of the dialogue between Shepard and Anderson. It was quite a touching scene. Not sure why they edited it. Overall I liked it. I mean it could have been better handled, but what with the sheer number of variations they were always going to find it difficult to end satisfactorily.

Played it for the story, it was totally worth. One of the best game stories out there, I am waiting for the next one but from what I heard, Shepard will not be futured in the next game... hope it will raise to the same level and continue the story in the same great manner :)

My fear for ME4 is that.. well.. What could really replace the Reapers as the new antagonist? The Reapers were such a perfect, overwhelming force that anything less will be lackluster, and anything more will feel cliché.

Honestly the smart money is to strip the conflict back down, dealing with smaller, more realistic problems. I mean most of 3 is more about diplomatic missions and solving political disputes than it is actually fighting the Reapers. It allows the full use of everything Mass Effect built without struggling to fill a space that doesn't really need to be there

They could bring back the Dark Energy plot, and the Leviathans probably want to take over the universe again. Honestly I think it's a lot easier to see a spin-off where you just play as a diplomat, a sort of puzzle game based off your knowledge of the series throwing the shooter part completely out.

Mass Effect has always been one of my favorite game series. It had action, romance, amazing storytelling, breathtaking worlds and scenery, the most difficult choices that impacted the story so well. I have been a fan since the first game and I will stay a fan for years to come. Once the last scene played and the credits rolled for ME3 I sat there teary-eyed. The ending was depressing yet amazing and I couldn't believe that Shepard's legacy was over. Rock on Bioware!

I hear this song and it makes me feel like I have a giant hole in my heart. I played these game as they came out. Grew to love the characters and the story. I am working on my 4th play through of part 3 so I can try to get that perfect ending. With the teaser trailer that came out I feel like the "destroy" ending of part 3 will be canon and I need my fem Shep to be alive and to be able to settle down with Liara. We need blue babies! Shepard and Liara deserve their happy ending. lol But anyway, Mass Effect is so much more than a game to many of us.

Would be cool to get a game with multiple side stories telling us what the crew was up to after shepards death at the begining of Mass Effect 2. How Wrex took over, Garrus's time on Omega, Tali going on missions for the fleet, Ash/Kaiden's Alliance work, and Liara recovering shepard from The Shadow Broker.

Finished it two days ago at like 5am and cried myself to sleep. I replayed the last missions yesterday, same effect. This series was so goddamn amazing and the ending has such a melancholic beauty to it. Immaculate, and infinitely sad. One of the best gaming experiences of my life

@Marek De Marko The high EMS explosion only targets synthetics with reaper tech, (ex: Geth, EDI, relays, citadel, etc.) Sure Shepard does have synthetics in their body but nowhere is it said that the tech is reaper in origin.

Mass Effect 3 still technically looks damn good on PC (doesn't even need high end PCs to run it now). On the latest gen of consoles, it would need a remaster. ME1 is the game which needs remaster on all fronts.

Mass Effect is one of three of my favorite franchises for sure. But, to me, this song represents two things. 1: Complete and utter disappointment at the terrible ending (the extended cut didn't fix anything, it just reinforced that the bad writing is canon). 2: Emptiness because I just completed the Trilogy and it was a Hell of a ride, but it's over.

Again, I loved the game - the story was good. Mass Effect has always been the one series that I felt "This could possibly happen." It just had that realistic feel to it. All the little details to the lore and the explanation for everything just made it that way. Except the last scenes The "choices" at the end felt way to supernatural and Unmasseffecty. And I feel if they someway put the indoctrination theory in, they can fix that feeling. But I am happy with the Extended Cut. It brought closure.

I love the Mass Effect series. But the first one is by far the best (to me anyway). It just became too much of shooter and the enemies just became bullet sponges as the series went on. Exploring the galaxy and planets is the most fun for me.
