Massive Attack Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I think I kind of lost myself again
Day, yesterday
Really should be leaving but I stay
Say, say my name
I need a little love to ease the pain
I need a little love to ease the pain
'Cause it feels like I've been
I've been here before
You are not my savior
But I still don't go
Feels like something
That I've done before
I could fake it
But I still want more
Fade, made the fade
Passion's overrated anyway
Say, say my name
I need a little love to ease the pain
I need a little love to ease the pain
It's easy to remember when it came
'Cause it feels like I've been
I've been here before
You are not my savior
But I still don't go, oh
I feel like something
That I've done before
I could fake it
But I still want more, oh
In "Dissolved Girl," the singer reflects on feeling lost and in pain, yet failing to leave a negative situation. The repetition of "I've been here before" suggests a cyclical pattern of behavior, possibly related to past trauma or relationship patterns. The singer admits to needing love "to ease the pain," but also acknowledges the futility of seeking salvation in another person ("You are not my savior").
The chorus features a memorable, almost hypnotic melody that underscores the song's themes of repetition and feeling stuck in a cycle. The line "I could fake it but I still want more" suggests that the singer may be tempted to put on a facade or pretend everything is okay, but ultimately craves something more genuine.
