The percussion loop is the "belly break" sampled from a Bob James' cover Take Me to the Mardi Gras of Paul Simon's track of the same name. The voice at the beginning of the song is a sample of John McLaughlin, whose voice was sampled without clearance.

And how it could be with you
Really hurt me, baby, really cut me, baby
How can you have a day without a night?
You're the book that I have opened
And now I've got to know much more
The curiousness of your potential kiss
Really hurt me, baby, really cut me, baby
How can you have a day without a night?
You're the book that I have opened
And now I've got to know much more
Like a soul without a mind
In a body without a heart
I'm missing every part, hey
I, I, I
I, I, I, I, I
Like a soul without a mind
In a body without a heart
I'm missing every part
Like a soul without a mind
In a body without a heart
I'm missing every part
Like a soul without a mind
In a body without a heart
I'm missing every part
(I don't know where this one came from)

The lyrics of Massive Attack's song "Unfinished Sympathy" describe the emotions of the singer, who is deeply in love with someone but unsure of their feelings in return. The first stanza describes how the singer has imagined love in the past, but now that they are pursuing it with this particular person, it is hurting them deeply. They question how it is possible to have a day without a night, indicating that this relationship is incomplete without reciprocated feelings of love.
The second stanza continues the theme of curiosity and longing, with the singer describing their body and mind as aching for the potential kiss of their love interest. Again, they express how much the unrequited love is hurting them. The following lines repeat the metaphor of the love interest as an open book that the singer is trying to read and understand more.
The final lines of the song repeat a metaphor used throughout the song - the singer compares themselves to a soul without a mind in a body without a heart, meaning that they feel incomplete and missing an essential part of themselves without their love interest. The repetition of this phrase highlights the intensity of the singer's emotions and the depth of their desire for reciprocated love.

This filmclip always will remind me of my only holiday in the USA.
To be fair, I was a kid. From a naive Aussie family in '98. Now that I realise some of the areas we went to because, why not?. Didn't even have Travellors insurance. Really hope it was some Crips who "found" my Duty Free Winfield Blues.
LA and Mexico. Had a blast, us crazy Aussies. And everyone was chill in the US and Mexico. NO ONE gave us hustle.
Drank Jungle Juice with my brother in Tijuana.... And the worm turned us both....
Stay Safe.

Yeah but the important thing is that you are discovering good music and you recognise the difference. That's awesome. I am a huge music nerd and I find music to be a time machine and a universal language that crosses all cultures, generations, races, genres and time... What matters is that we share good music with people who we care about...
There was something very special about making a mix tape back in the 80s/90s...you'd have to consider the time on each side, usually a 90 min cassette split into 2...try get the theme and flow of the songs and take up as much time as possible... Getting your tape and stack of cds and you'd have to listen to the songs as you record them... So you felt the music you were sharing even more... Click record... Click stop... Change cd... Click record etc...
Then you use your best hand writing to make the inlay card. You choose your whole layout like it would be for me usually
1) Massive Attack : Unfinished Sympathy
2) Nirvana : Heart Shaped Box
Etc etc...
Then you rewind the tape and maybe put a sticker on the case and when you share it you huddle together and you excitedly point out songs and tell them how great the song is... Nothing better than hearing 'oh wow I really love this song and I don't have it!'
Music was valued more and people had the attention span for an album, a great album told a story, brought you somewhere and was a soundscape that you could explore over and over... Now music is too disposable, too cheap sounding, relies too much on gimmicks and trends... There's barely enough attention span for a 3 min song letalone something with a coda!
Some of my favourite albums
Nine Inch Nails: The Fragile
Prince: Sign O The Times
The Cure : Disintegration
Radiohead: OK Computer
Oasis: Definitely Maybe
Fleetwood Mac: Rumours
Manic Street Preachers :Holy Bible
David Bowie: Scary Monsters
New Order: Substance
My Bloody Valentine : Loveless
I could do you 100 top albums and there's 4-5 albums by Prince and Bowie I'd suggest here too, majority of New Order, NIN annd Radio head's albums are incredible too... This is just my desert island discs if I wasn't allowed 'best ofs' (I cheat with New Order a bit here though!) I miss out on stuff like In Utereo by Nirvana, Achtung Baby by U2, Rid of Me by PJ Harvey, Debut by Bjork, Aenima by Tool, Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos, Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins, Never Mind The Bollocks by Sex Pistols, Music for the Gilted Generation by The Prodigy, Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Discovery by Daft Punk, Life after Death by Notorious Big, reasonable Doubt by Jay Z, Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy, Street Songs by Rick James... Shit dude I can go on an on...
Just enjoy what you like and don't give a damn what people think! Enjoy your groove and turn it up high!
