Indeed. For me, I think I somehow love it even more with every additional viewing. I think in the 21st century thus far: this is the film most deserving of being referred to as art. The magnificent poetry and passion of it is evident in every frame.

I love this piece. And it's such a sweetly melancholy scene in the film, them carrying the wounded doctor onto one of the Galapagos islands as the big, ancient iguanas move slowly around, watching them in the dying evening light. Truly beautiful stuff. What an excellent piece of cinema it is.

Aubrey stopped chasing the Acheron to save Maturin! The friendship between these opposing characters is one of the main themes of the movie, and Corelli's music is used to celebrate it. Simply beautiful.

This song is so important to me, I used to listen to it all the time last year, alone in my flat questioning my place in this world, why I couldnt go out to the sea and leave for the far side of the world. I just bursted out crying listening to it again it's been a while. Trully beautiful, this movie will always have a special place in my heart.

Aria, as one who HAS "Gotten on a ship and left for the far side of the world", I say that there is no reason NOT to. The sea can show you many things, teach you many things, and open you to both the wider world, and to yourself. I did it in the Navy, you can find the way that works for you. The music from this movie catches very well the feeling of being there, in the middle of the ocean, on the far side of the world.

I play the violin and in high school we played the concerto grosso for a christmas concert for the year that I was first chair. It was by far my favorite song to play. Just so beautiful and independent on every part and it just comes together so perfectly that it leaves you in awe and with chills.

when music makes you cry, not from a scene, but from beauty, with each note I think of crew member the deep notes I think of the captain, hard but fair, duty bound but always willing for a laugh, the high for the doctor, who might not be the most disciplined of men, but kept lucky jack sane. to me its the music that suits men, men who did there jobs, lived long boring days, died in horrible ways. and were not heroes. but men. sail on gents...sail on this would have been perfect for the credits too :') this music is flawless

Being one of the most beautiful albums and fantastic movies of the century. It is one of a very few movies that truly capture the horrors and wonders of the world back then. I hope that more movies are created like this but none of them will live up the greatness of the music and actors of this movie.

What a great movie, Raises the Testosterone and lures my soul for adventure! The music was wonderful. I especially like the Allegro Vivo by Boccherini they play at the end of the movie as they sail towards the Acheron.

This movie is a masterpiece, this will likely remain unrecognized until years on... just like Mozart (or in this case Corelli). The music compliments the film in a way that I believe has never been before, truly divine. It is unfortunate, historical importance (especially in mainstream movies) is rapidly being forgotten through the less - intelligent humans need for cheap laughs through true cinematic trash. People today couldn't wrap their minds around a film like this.

I agree with you. This film is just exceptional. But, anyway, I really miss a sequel. I think producers had a strong plot to carry on the story with a sequel. If now they say a sequel will be made, I would be very glad I guess. :)

For Jack, it was a choice from both heart and mind. Mind because even with the Acheron at his reach, without the good doctor, the Surprise's crew would have been slaughtered. And heart, because he was far way more concerned about his friend's life and dread Stephen wouldn't make it.

@Jeneral Jax 29 well, maybe i'm exagerating .When the doctor is mostly the only one who can keep everyone alive if the worst happen, and the doctor is dead of dying, he can't do that obviously. In the final battle, Stephen fights bravely and helps a lot of people but even with him the casualties are massive, without him, it would have beeen way worse.

@Fry G The Darkarchangel Yes, and additionally, it's Stephen showing Jack the Phasmid (stick insect) that gives him the inspiration to disguise the Surprise. It's that element of surprise that makes it possible for them to defeat the Acheron. It's the friendship between Jack and Stephen that makes the ultimate triumph possible.

The reason no sequel was made is because this movie was too well done. No pointless female micro drama, no obvious heroes, no Hollywood bullshit at all. Very historically accurate and faithful to the books. Not a recipe for big box office I'm afraid. Gets my vote for best seafaring movie of all time. To watch this movie in 5.1 Surround is a joy to behold.

@oracle897 Peter Weir, the director of this film, is one of the generation's master filmmakers. unfortunately his rate of production has slowed considerably over the past 2 decades. and i can assure you - he doesn't make sequel. you should check out his latest film The Way Back though. it's just as epic.

You hit the nail on the head there brother. Haha i remember the first time i watched this movie with my father in our upstairs home theatre. It was a magnificent, thrilling, emotional experience. I have to disagree with you on the best seafaring movie and myself would call it the best movie ever. It is Ridiclous though how this didnt make a big box office while shit like Justin Biebers Life story can Make Millions Opening weekend. Bullshit i must say. But any way great movie Great soundtrack.
