The Blue Garden
Masters of Reality Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Then when the circle spoke
The light fell
The spell broke
Come down on me

Lightning
Came downward
And I fell
As a tear

It's been a sad life
As I stood
Holding the light
To the dark

The eyes that seek me
The eyes that hold all the pain in the world

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Masters of Reality's song "The Blue Garden" are highly poetic and subject to interpretation. The opening lines, "Then when the circle spoke / The light fell / The spell broke / Come down on me" suggest a moment of revelation or profound truth that has been spoken, leading to a transformative experience for the singer. The following lines, "Lightning / Came downward / And I fell / As a tear," continue this sense of falling and surrender to something greater. The lyrics suggest a willingness to let go and be carried away by a force beyond human control.

The next lines, "It's been a sad life / As I stood / Holding the light / To the dark," hint at a life of suffering or isolation, perhaps in a role of providing hope or guiding others through difficult times. The final lines, "The eyes that seek me / The eyes that hold all the pain in the world," reinforce this sense of empathy for those who are suffering and the singer's desire to offer comfort, despite their own sadness.

Overall, "The Blue Garden" is a thought-provoking and emotionally rich song that encourages listeners to reflect on their own experiences of loss, pain, and transcendence.

@gfrkiss

Certainly. In my humble opinion, one of the greatest albums ever.

@mindsignals7496

I saw them between 1988 and 1990 in Syracuse while I was a student at SU...just an amazing group. I still listen to this a lot, but it kills me that their material isn't currently on Spotify. I also can't believe it's been around 30 years since I saw them live! Admittedly, I bought the disc initially because the artwork was awesome, but the entire disc was incredible, track after track! They are way underrated.

A cassette as a birthday present in 90s and still listen. So ahead of their time.

I’m with ya brother. I had it on cassette in 89. Bought it based on the interesting cover and the fact Rick Rubin produced it.
