Nothing Left To Lose
Mat Kearney Lyrics
Something's in the air tonight
The sky's alive with a burning light
You can mark my words something's about to break
And I found myself in a bitter fight
While I've held your hand through the darkest night
Don't know where your coming from, but your coming soon
To a kid from Oregon by way of California
All of this is more than I've ever known or seen
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
And here we go
There's nothing left to choose
And here we go
There's nothing left to lose
So I packed my car and headed east
Where I felt your fire and a sweet release
There's a fire in these hills that's coming down
And I don't know much, but I found you here
And I cannot wait another year
Don't know where your coming from, but you coming soon
To a kid from Oregon by way of California
All of this is more than I've ever known or seen
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
And here we go
There's nothing left to choose
And here we go
There's nothing left to lose
I can still hear the trains out my window
From Hobart street to here in Nashville
I can still smell the pomegranates grow
And I don't know how hard this wind will blow
Or where we'll go
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down, watch the world around fly by us
Come on, and we'll try, one last time
I'm off of the floor one more time to find you
Come on, and we'll sing, like we were free
Push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
And here we go
There's nothing left to choose
And here we go
There's nothing left to lose

He has toured with Owl City, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, The Fray, Jason Mraz, Vedera Newsboys, MUTEMATH, Meiko, Cary Brothers, and Train; and headlined VH1's first ever "You Oughta Know Tour" in the spring of 2007.

He attended California State University, Chico in Chico, California where he majored in literature and played soccer until his junior year. It was also at this time when Mat picked up a guitar for the first time. Using a roommate's guitar, he tried covering other songs. Realizing he wasn't too good at it, he began writing his own.
Kearney has stated that his legal name is Mathew due to a nurse's error on his birth certificate. He discovered the error while in the 8th grade when he noticed how his mom corrected the error with red ink, never legally correcting it. Since then, he embraced the one T in his legal name.

It was 2007. I was unemployed, broke and lived in front of my computer trying to rectify my situation.. Cold calling., cold emailing. This song was played quite frequently on the radio. There was nothing good about the time. It was difficult snd sad and as horrible as it was, I hear this song, reflect back on that time and smile, wistfully. Broke and unemployed and unsure of my future yet the simplicity of my situation, trying my best, hoping, praying , making wishes. A lot has happened since 2007. I wouldn’t want to go back to that time, but I certainly miss certain uncomplicated aspects of that era.

Laurie, the impetus of this message is merely to convey my respect for the manner in which you composed your message. Your comment expressed emotion in a palpable way; in a manner that possesses depth. This song has meant a good deal to me for quite a copious amount of time as well.

Ten years past, I remembered this song.
Sometime before it loomed somewhere in the distance. This became my anthem when I was reconfiguring my life after removing people from it who were distractions.
Fast forward to today ,and all I can do is thank God for the person who is making me to be. Knowing his will and purpose is the most impactful and important part of your life. Those people who I thought were so necessary, are gone and they are the faint memory .

Can totally relate to this. 2007 was one lf the toughest years of my life having to move from one place to another. It couldn't end any worse than my at that time car's engine breaking down completely. Things are way much better these days but I wouldn't be who I am now if I hadn't lived it the way it was.

My wife left this world for heaven this past December. We had forty one beautiful years of marriage together, now with memories and with God guiding I am about to push the pedal down and wave California.

I’m sorry for your loss. May GOD continue to guide you with HIS love for you.
