And you are by my side
We're talking about our lives
Like we've known each other forever
Time flies by
With the sound of your voice
It's close to paradise
And if I could only stop the car
And hold onto you
And never let go (And never let go)
I'll never let go (I'll never let go)
As we round the corner to your house
You turn to me and said
"I'll be going through withdrawal of you
For this one night we have spent."
And I want to speak these words
But I guess I'll just bite my tongue
And accept someday, somehow
As our words that we'll hang from
And I
I don't want to speak these words
Cause I
I don't want to make things any worse
Why does tonight have to end?
Why don't we hit restart
And pause it at our favorite parts
We'll skip the goodbyes
If I had it my way
I'd turn the car around
And run away
Just you and I
And I
I don't want to speak these words
Cause I
I don't want to make things any worse
The opening verses of Matchbook Romance's song Tiger Lily describe a poignant moment of connection between two individuals as they drive together at nightfall. As they converse, it feels as if they have known one another for a long time. The lyrics suggest that there is both an intense closeness and an impending sense of ending--"Time flies by with the sound of your voice, it's close to paradise with the end surely near." The song's protagonist wishes to stop time and "hold onto" the other person, to never let go, however, the moment is fleeting and cannot be stopped. As they turn the corner to the person's house, there is a sense of regret. The other person expresses that they will miss them, leaving the singer conflicted. They want to express their feelings but instead "bite their tongue," not wanting to create any more tension.
The chorus of the song repeats a variation of the same lyrics expressing the singer's reluctance to speak their heartache: "I don't want to speak these words cause I don't want to make things any worse." The singer wishes they could start the night over and pause at their favorite moments, skipping the goodbye entirely. Tiger Lily explores the complexities of human connection, the brief intensity of it all, and the longing to hold onto someone or something forever.

We drive tonight
We're driving around tonight
And you are by my side
You're with me on this ride
We're talking about our lives
We're having deep conversations
Like we've known each other forever
As if we've been friends forever
Time flies by
Time passes quickly
With the sound of your voice
While listening to your voice
It's close to paradise
It almost feels perfect
With the end surely near
Knowing it won't last much longer
And if I could only stop the car
If only I could pause time
And hold onto you
And hold onto you forever
And never let go (And never let go)
Never letting go of each other
I'll never let go (I'll never let go)
I'll always hold onto you
As we round the corner to your house
As we approach your home
You turn to me and said
You said to me
"I'll be going through withdrawal of you
"I'll miss you
For this one night we have spent."
After tonight.
And I want to speak these words
I want to say these things
But I guess I'll just bite my tongue
But I'll keep them inside
And accept someday, somehow
And come to terms with the future
As our words that we'll hang from
As the words we'll remember
And I
I
I don't want to speak these words
I don't want to say these things
Cause I
Because I
I don't want to make things any worse
I don't want to add to the sadness
Why does tonight have to end?
Why can't we stay in this moment?
Why don't we hit restart
Why can't we start over?
And pause it at our favorite parts
And stay in the moments we love
We'll skip the goodbyes
We won't say goodbye
If I had it my way
If I could choose
I'd turn the car around
I'd start driving back
And run away
And escape from reality
Just you and I
Just the two of us

As we round the corner
To your house
You turned to me and said,
"I'll be going through withdrawal of you
For this one night we have spent."
And, i want to speak these words
But i guess i'll just bite my tongue,
And accept "someday, somehow"
As the words that we'll hang from.

Found my old CD album from 2004 and they were in there. I am now listening to them nonstop. Forgot about them and how good they were. I am 31 right now. This song is my favorite.
