If You're Gone
Matchbox Twenty Lyrics

I think you're already gone
I think I'm finally scared now
You think I'm weak, I think you're wrong
I think you're already leaving
Feels like your hand is on the door
I thought this place was an empire
Now I'm relaxed, I can't be sure
And I think you're so mean
I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life and
I think I'm scared
I think too much
I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm dealing
If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone, baby you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of something me
In everything in you
I bet you're hard to get over
I bet the room just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
And I bet you need more than you mind
And I think you're so mean
I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life
I think I'm just scared that I know too much
I can't relate and that's a problem I'm feeling
If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone, baby you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of something me
In everything in you
I think you're so mean
I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life and
I think I'm scared
Do I talk too much?
I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm dealing
If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone
Hell baby, you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of something me
In everything in you (you)
(Something in me)
(Everything in you)
(Something in me)
In you
The lyrics of the song "If You're Gone" by Matchbox Twenty speaks about a relationship in which the singer believes his partner has already left emotionally, if not physically. The lines "I think I've already lost you, I think you're already gone" indicate the singer's belief that his partner has already mentally checked out of the relationship. The line "I think you're already leaving, feels like your hand is on the door" also points to the singer's belief that his partner is on the verge of leaving.
The singer expresses his fear of losing the relationship when he says "I think I'm finally scared now, you think I'm weak, I think you're wrong." This line indicates that the singer fears that his partner has made the decision to leave, and that he is unsure of how to proceed. The lyrics "If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home, there's an awful lot of breathing room, but I can hardly move" suggest that the singer is struggling to cope with the possibility of his partner's absence in his life. He is questioning whether it is time for his partner to come back home to him, to fill the space that she left behind.
Overall, the song describes a relationship in turmoil, where the singer is holding on to the hope that his partner will come back to him, while at the same time, he is trying to deal with the reality of the situation.

Listening in March 2024. I am 77 and just discovered MB20 in 2023. I have everything they have recorded. I relate to a great deal of the lyrics Rob writes. Plus, I love the passion in their songs, not only by Rob, but all of the band. I agree he is a great songwriter. I also feel that he has a unique to him intonation when he sings. He often cuts off a sound and blends his words that create an identifiable and recognizable sound. I personally think his sound is so original, as to make it difficult to attempt to imitate. One of my favorite singers, both solo and in the band.

This video gives me anxiety when they show him standing on the edge of the building .
