Close those tired eyes, I am still near you
Good night, sleep tight, count to one hundred
One day you'll find to lose is to wonder
So good night, sweet child
Dream till the morning
Close those tired eyes, life's just a story
Close those tired eyes count to one hundred
Good night, sleep tight mama will hold you
Close those tired eyes
Dream 'till the morning
Little Nancy Etticoat with her white petticoat
And a red nose
The longer she stands, the shorter she grows
Little Nancy Etticoat with a red nose
Good night, sleep tight
Mama will hold you
The lyrics of Mathilde Santing's song "Dream Till the Morning" are a lullaby sang by a mother to her child as she lulled the child to sleep. The mother comforts the child, telling her to close her tired eyes and assures her of her presence. She promises to hold the child, ensuring that she stays safe as she dreams till the morning. The mother encourages the child to count to one hundred to help pass the time before she falls asleep. She explains to the child that in life, losing something can cause one to wonder, but that should not disturb the child's dream. She tells the child to dream on till the morning.
The second verse of the song continues in the same vein as the first. The mother repeats her instructions, telling the child to close her tired eyes while she holds the child. She likens life to a story that the child will have to learn to decipher as she grows up. The mother reassures the little girl of her presence, promising to hold her tightly as she dreams on till the morning.
In summary, the song is a lullaby about a mother's love and protection for her child. She teaches the child how to relax, advises her to count and promises her that she is nearby. The song highlights the importance of dreaming and letting go of worries.
