1. MATILDA (마틸다) was a girl group under Box Media. They debuted on March 18, 2016 with the single "Macarena".
They reportedly disbanded in September 2019 following the members' contract expiration with the agency.
2. Matilda (Matilda Gressberg) from Eidskog, Norway, has at the age of only 18 already established herself as a complete artist and a high profile Norwegian act. Her debut single “When Something Ends” went all the way to number of the official Norwegian radio chart , and the album ‘A Heart’ is without a doubt one of the strongest and most impressive Scandinavian debuts in many years. Featuring on the album we find a host of well-known Norwegian musicians and producers. Among them are Evene Ormestad (producers), Thom Hell (guitars and co-producer), Jonas Alaska (harmonica), Martin Horntvedt (drums), David Wallumrød (keyboards), Kjetil Grande and Olaf Olsen (drums). Matilda possesses a great voice, both crystal clear and consisting of a strong and hard-to-describe characteristic. Add in a very good ear for melodies, blended with a knack for solid pop- and singer/songwriter tunes, and last but not least credibility. What we end up with is a particularly potent mix bound for stardom.
3. Matilda is an electropop duo from Santa Fe, Argentina.
4. This Matilda project is also sometimes called, “Matilda And Friends,” sometimes known as just “Matilda,” "Mathilda" or sometimes also known as “Matilda [Detroit]” but it’s usually the same thing, slightly different.
The Matilda project is a mostly solo ongoing musical endeavor spearheaded by mostly relaxed and slightly lazy working man Shaun Wisniewski.
Originally called P.S. [for about two weeks] the Matilda project started as a birthday gift for his brother in 2003. Shaun enjoyed the music making process so much that he continued to do it. +
Now in 2011 the Matilda project has seen many variations, mutations, as well as other oddities, but has put out around 15 releases, most of which are full length albums.

When I Grow Up
Matilda Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I will be tall enough to reach the branches
That I need to reach to climb the trees
You get to climb when you're grown up
And when I grow up
I will be smart enough to answer all the questions that you need to know
The answers to before you're grown up
On the way to work and I will go to bed late every night
And I will wake up when the sun comes up
And I will watch cartoons until my eyes go square
And I won't care 'cause I'll be all grown up
When I grow up
When I grow up, when I grow up, (when I grow up)
I will be strong enough to carry all the heavy things you have to haul around
When you, when you're a grown up
And when I grow up, when I grow up, (when I grow up)
I will be brave enough to fight the creatures that you have to fight beneath the bed
Each night to be a grown up
And when I grow up, (when I grow up)
I will have treats everyday
And I'll play with things that mum pretends that mums don't think are fun
And I will wake up (I will wake up)
When the sun comes up and I will spend all day just lying in the sun
And I won't burn 'cause I'll be all grown up
When I grow up
When I grow up
I will be brave enough to fight the creatures
That you have to fight beneath the bed each night to be a grown up
When I grow up
Just because you find that life's not fair
It doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it
If you always take it on the chin and wear it
Nothing will change
When I grow up
Just because I find myself in this story
It doesn't mean that everything is written for me
If I think the ending is fixed already
I might as well be saying
I think that it's ok
And that's not right
The song "When I Grow Up" from Matilda the Musical is a playful and whimsical tune that illustrates the dreams, desires and aspirations of children when they imagine what it would be like to be grown-ups. The song is an ensemble piece that mainly features the child cast with a few solos from the lead characters. The opening lines of the song "When I grow up, I will be tall enough to reach the branches / That I need to reach to climb the trees you get to climb when you're grown up" represent the yearning of a child to be tall enough to reach things that seem out of reach, as well as the urge to do thrilling things like climb trees by themselves. The song goes on to express other childish fantasies, such as eating sweets every day and staying up late to watch cartoons.
However, it is not just about childish whimsy. The song also represents the early yearning towards adulthood, with the children singing about being smart enough, strong enough, and brave enough to face any challenge that comes their way, just like they see adults do. The song also has a more mature side, a call to action, to not accept that life is not fair, and to resist pessimism and a predetermined future. The song is a reminder that it is possible to change and make choices for oneself.
The song's upbeat composition is an integral part of its success. The songwriters Tim Minchin (music and lyrics) purposely made it upbeat, cheerful, and catchy to get the audience on their feet.
Line by Line Meaning
When I grow up
I will be tall enough to reach the branches
That I need to reach to climb the trees
You get to climb when you're grown up
When I become an adult, I will grow tall enough to climb trees and reach the high branches that are currently out of my reach. Being a grown-up will enable me to do things I am unable to do now like climbing trees.
And when I grow up
I will be smart enough to answer all the questions that you need to know
The answers to before you're grown up
And when I grow up, I will eat sweets everyday
On the way to work and I will go to bed late every night
And I will wake up when the sun comes up
And I will watch cartoons until my eyes go square
And I won't care 'cause I'll be all grown up
When I grow up
When I become an adult, I’ll be smart enough to provide answers to the questions you may have, something that I cannot do as a child. I will be able to indulge on sweets and stay awake until late in the night. I will wake up early to watch cartoons and won't care about anything because I will finally be a grown-up.
When I grow up, when I grow up, (when I grow up)
I will be strong enough to carry all the heavy things you have to haul around
When you, when you're a grown up
When I grow up, I’ll be strong enough to carry heavy stuff, which adults do inevitably. My parents carry heavy stuff, and I will be able to do so as well when I become an adult.
And when I grow up, when I grow up, (when I grow up)
I will be brave enough to fight the creatures that you have to fight beneath the bed
Each night to be a grown up
When I become an adult, I’ll be brave enough to confront and get rid of the creatures that live beneath my bed. I need to do this to be considered grown up like my parents.
And when I grow up, (when I grow up)
I will have treats everyday
And I'll play with things that mum pretends that mums don't think are fun
And I will wake up (I will wake up)
When the sun comes up and I will spend all day just lying in the sun
And I won't burn 'cause I'll be all grown up
When I grow up
When I grow up, I’ll be able to have treats every day and play with toys that my mother pretends are not fun. I will wake up at sunrise and spend my day lounging in the sun without fearing skin burn because that’s what being a grown-up means to me.
When I grow up
Just because you find that life's not fair
It doesn't mean that you just have to grin and bear it
If you always take it on the chin and wear it
Nothing will change
When I grow up, I will realize that life is not always fair, but I must not be resigned to it. I need to act instead of just accepting life's difficulties passively, or nothing will change for me.
When I grow up
Just because I find myself in this story
It doesn't mean that everything is written for me
If I think the ending is fixed already
I might as well be saying
I think that it's ok
And that's not right
When I grow up, just because I find myself in certain circumstances or situations, that doesn't mean that everything is predetermined for me. Assuming that the story's ending is fixed, I am essentially stating that I am okay with what's happening, which is not acceptable.

I was NOT expecting to be so emotionally impacted by this musical version. This song really hit close to home. I’m so glad we have two amazing Matilda movies in their own unique ways.
@bookwormd8627
I just finished the film. I feel the exact same way, i watched the movie and read the book and although I haven’t watched the broadway musical (cuz they don’t show it where I live) I was aware of the songs and actors. One of the songs I severely underrated was When I Grow Up. The end of the film made me she’s tears of joy.
@jessicasugh3511
Same ! Just watched it with my kids.
@ryanpollyniak9644

@SARAI_bearycloud
Bro I cried to this song idk why
@NokoFace
I agree. The 1996 movie holds such a beautiful place in my heart as a child, that I was hesitant to watch the new movie... but I adored it. Both are so special in their own ways.
@wytchlet
am I the only person who actually gets emotional when they sing this? like to the point of tears? because damn being an adult and listening to this kinda hits you in the feels, and personally makes me wanna go back in time and protect younger me from becoming a "grown up"
