The song "Superhero" by Matilda Melin speaks about a relationship that started with love, but turned out to be destructive. The singer loved the person with all her power and gave everything she had, but was used and abused until she became a mix of sweetness and bitterness. She thought it would be okay, but hears everything and learns that the person she loves is turning into a sad case. Then they offer to save her, but in the end, the roles are reversed, and she fights like Wonder Woman but admits that she is no superhero. She also realizes that the person who claimed to be a superhero in her life is now her villain, and she is not physically hurt but is hurting emotionally. She continues to try and wrap her head around what happened but crying and trying to protect herself from people seeing how she's acting. Thus, the song ends with her questioning what happened.
The song reflects the fear of falling in love and then learning painfully that the person is not who you thought they were. It also reflects the sense of betrayal when the object of your affection turns out not to be the hero they pretended to be, and you discover that you're fighting alone because you're no superhero. The lyrics convey the powerlessness of the singer in a relationship that was supposed to have saved her but instead made things worse. Despite the singer's love for the person, she knows that she can't change them or let them hurt her again.
One interesting fact about the song is that Matilda Melin competed in the 2015 season of Swedish Idol but didn't win, but she went on to become a famous singer. "Superhero" is from the EP "August'17" released in 2017. Before the solo career, Matilda was a member of the Swedish group Lilla Sällskapet, together with Lisa Pyk Wirström, Linnéa Jönsson, and Linn Moberg. Also, a Swedish artist named Molly Sandén last competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016, has worked with Matilda on her music recording. In October 2016, she released her debut single "Naked," which earned her the honor of becoming the Swedish ambassador of The World Wildlife Fund for her contribution to nature preservation. The song's standout moment, the rap verse, was written by Ivory and came together in about 2 hours.
