Rock With You
Matt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's not easy to be this lonely
It's hard enough to take you at your word
When you're fading into memory
And looking back at only things that were
It came slowly like eternity but just as sure

Well, baby, you and me we're going driving
Down the road away from it all
We were betting on the odds we'd be arriving
At the alter of forever standing tall

Now we're waiting in the valley
By a mountain we're not sure we want to climb
Viewing endings and beginnings
With a feeling that it's all a loss of time
It's like searching for a melody
The reason and rhyme

I never knew it was bothering you
But I was never good at following through
With me and you

Overall Meaning

In Matt's song Rock With You, the lyrics depict a sense of loneliness and uncertainty. The opening line "It's not easy to be this lonely" sets the tone for the song, as the singer struggles to come to terms with their emotions. They express their difficulty in trusting others, and question whether they can truly believe in what others say. The line "When you're fading into memory" suggests that the singer may have experienced a difficult separation from someone they once loved, and the memories of this person linger with them.

The second verse of the song provides a glimmer of hope in the midst of the singer's loneliness. They describe going on a drive with their partner, away from the difficulties and challenges of everyday life. The lyrics "We were betting on the odds we'd be arriving at the alter of forever standing tall" suggest the desire for a long-lasting and committed relationship. However, as the song progresses, the singer reveals that they are still struggling with their emotions. They describe waiting in a valley, unsure of whether they want to face the challenges that lay ahead. The final line "It's like searching for a melody, the reason and rhyme" highlights the singer's inner turmoil, as they try to make sense of their feelings.

Fantastic tutorial of another great song!
Matt, could you make a tutorial how to create a sound from intro Fireflies - Owl City???
You played it in Classic Hooks 2.

+Wojciech Bernatek Hi Wojciech, sorry for not replying sooner - I have only just noticed this comment. It may not be relevant now but you can actually download my patch for Fireflies (free) as a bundle here: - www.mattcossey.co.uk

Matt, that was awesome! I currently work with a Korg Triton Le and a Roland Juno G. As you can expect sounds are a bit cheap although I get my way around it ;) But yep... I was thinking on a Nord Stage 2 EX to upgrade but I got a lot of doubts of its capabilities to split, layer etc.
We also cover this song :D On the EP piano part I also have a soft string pad. In the middle register some strings for the interlude ("and when the groove is dead and gone..") and also a synth similar to the final parts. Is it possible to add that on top of what you've done?
Thanks for this!

Hello fellow ex-Morlings employee I do believe!? :-)
I recently acquired one of these beauts and was wondering how to set up three different zones?I thought it would be as easy as the two zones but for some reason last night at band practice it didn't work that way! I also would like to know your thoughts on the nord sound manager and if it's easy to download patches that people share for songs? I haven't figured it out yet :-( but that might be a laptop issue (where I'm saving them to etc?)
And another thing,(sorry!) through the pa all the sounds from the synth section are sounding quite echoey, I have turned off any reverb, and the release is sharp, and had a general fiddle of all the bits and piecex, but there's obviously something I'm missing? As I want nice crisp clear sounds for a lot of my songs.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated! I am looking to upload some tutorials to help others with bits and pieces soon, so much easier than reading the manual!
