I love how you interpreted that "Out of the woods" the whole point of being an interpreter is making sure that the thought is being conveyed, the meaning behind what is being shown, and let me tell you, "Are we okay? Are we together? Fighting over?" We together?" makes this song so much more approachable and understandable to the ASL community, I'm sure. Out of the woods has meaning to us in English because it's something we've grown up hearing, I can't imagine it's a well used phrase in the sign community. . .

Your videos are fabulous, Anissa! Thank you so much for your beautiful song covers. My son and I are learning ASL together (neither of us is HOH, but it's a great skill to have!) and he loves your videos. So far our lessons have been pretty limited to vocabulary, so seeing it put together so rhythmically and beautifully is incredibly helpful.

Only thing is December is fingerspelled D-E-C.
All the months are fully fingerspelled or abbreviated if too long. The sign you used is either SEE sign or an older sign I've never seen before.

When you're signing "realize" you're actually signing "understand" . There is a sign for realize - it's an R in a little circle by your ear . Just thought I'd let you know if you didn't already .

Yes ASL sentence structure is " time, topic, comment" ex: ENGLISH - Do you want to go to the store tomorrow? Ex: ASL - Tomorrow store want go?

Yep, it's a whole language unto itself with it's own grammar and syntax. If you google "ASL grammar" you'll find a lot of resources on how to put a sentence together in ASL properly. Don't think of it as translating English word for word; as with translations into many other languages, it just doesn't work properly.

I have one thing to say. When you sign REALIZE you are signing UNDERSTAND however it's sorta the same but with an R. other that really good!

Yes, UNDERSTAND is the appropriate word, but what I meant was when I was reading it she used REALIZE in the text even though she was using the correct content in ASL. I am HoH I didn't notice that minor mistake until I was reading it.

Really neither sign translates perfectly to English so you could use either. REALIZE with an R hand seems to mean more... thought about it and thought about it and decided that I thought this, wondered about it and decided this... Whereas UNDERSTAND with an index finger is used in Deaf conversations all the time to make sure people are following the conversation... I would say this "realize" in the song is closer to UNDERSTAND with an index than REALIZE with an R hand since it's sort of an instant "and I realized." IMO. But that is just what I have observed where I am. I would say that it's cool to use UNDERSTAND. All us ASL students have to remember that these are not actually direct translations to English and are instead new words that we don't necessarily have a perfect equivalent to.

@20Unbelievable06 This is just my interpretation. I took the song to be progressive. At first the "woods" is the fights and struggles in the relationship and she was constantly worried about it ending. Which is why she repeated the lyrics so much. But since this song is about a relationship that's over, at the end when she said "Good!" I took it to be angry and sarcastic. Meaning the the "woods" had ended but so had the relationship.

ASL not ALS. ASL is American Sign Language. It is its own language and though it is based on English, it has different grammar. ALS is a degenerative disease so its best not to mix them up. haha! Hope that helps! check out some more of my videos or others like it! ASL is a beautiful language
