I was falling through the sky
You whispered to me
Baby hold on tight
No starting wars
Saying my good-byes
Still you never took your hand from mine
All the stars above our heads
The faster they came
The faster they went
All the stars above our heads
Spin you round through the roar of this crowd tonight, tonight
I'll dance you round through the bones of this town
Until daylight comes
Hope, hope will put the colors in the sky
Hope, hope will set this world of wrong to right, to right
Love comes tumbling down
Cities made of stone
Sinking in the flood
All the people wait around to rust
All the stars above our heads
The faster they came
The faster they went
All the stars we lose ourselves
Spin you round through the roar of this crowd tonight, tonight
I'll dance you round through the bones of this town until daylight comes
Hope, hope will put the colors in the sky
Hope, hope will set this world of wrong to right, to right
Love comes tumbling down
When did we, when did we get so careful (oh love)
When did we, when did we lose ourselves
Afraid, we fade, we fade out
When did we, when did we get so careful (love)
Spin you round through the roar of this crowd tonight,
Tonight (spin your round)
I'll dance you round through
The bones of this town until daylight comes (dance around)
Hope, hope will put the colors in the sky
Hope, hope will set this world of wrong to right,
To right (then love comes)
Love comes tumbling down
(love, love) love comes tumbling down
All the stars above my head
The faster they came
The faster they went
The song "Love Comes Tumbling Down" by Matt Nathanson describes the ups and downs of a relationship. In the beginning of the song, the singer talks about how his partner tries to keep him grounded and hold on tight, but despite the effort, the singer feels like he is falling through the sky. He acknowledges that there are challenges in relationships, but still, he appreciates the fact that his partner never let go of his hand, even during the tough times.
The middle part of the song talks about society's problems and how people wait around to rust. The stars above represent the fleeting nature of life, how they come and go quickly, and how easily people can lose themselves in the monotony of daily life. The singer identifies hope as the key to changing things and putting the colors back into the sky. Love can do the same, but only when it is approached with the right mindset.
The final part of the song repeats the previous lyrics and serves as a final reminder that love is the ultimate answer to life's problems, but it takes effort and hope to make it work. The song's theme ultimately tells us that love requires effort, choice, and intentionality.

I had this as my alarm clock for years because it was my favorite song, and only hearing it in that context ruined it for me a little. I'm listening to it a lot lately and am looking forward to it being a favorite song again.
