He is known for his solo career, as well as his now disbanded pop punk band 3 Prong Outlet. Since the disbandment of his punk band, he focused on folk music, with an emphasis on protest music and political songwriting. Matt Pless began his music career at the age of 8 when he started writing songs and performing them for his 3rd grade class. This followed his exposure to ‘60s pop-rock groups, such as The Monkees and The Beatles, the musicality of Billy Joel, and various children’s show songs from Disney films and Jim Henson’s Muppet Show.
He started his first band in 1998 with the formation of a pop punk trio, 3 Prong Outlet. The group included bassist Steve Smeal, and AJ Russo on drums. As the lead singer and songwriter/guitarist for the band, Matt proved early on to have a knack for composing songs that featured catchy hooks and memorably clever lyrics layered over distorted guitar chords and galloping drum beats in the vein of punk bands such as Green Day, Blink 182 and The Mr. T Experience.
Matt broke up 3 Prong Outlet in the fall of 2004 and began his solo career. He recorded his first solo venture, the full-length "Requiems for Wishing Wells”, swapping his electric guitar for an acoustic and immersing himself in the music of Bob Dylan and Bright Eyes. Matt promoted "Requiems" on his first solo tour of the U.S. playing coffee shops, bars and basements and showcasing his new style of aggressive, yet still catchy, acoustic music which would eventually fall under the category of folk punk and anti-folk.

Here's what modern day punk rock's done to me,
I've grown up in front of a computer screen.
And know everything about every scene,
And it's all the same, If you know what I mean.
I've met a million faces and a few hundred fans,
I've spent my early twenties in a beat up van,
But I'm working on my punk rock retirement plan,
Because the rhythm I wrote is coming to an end.
I bought myself a guitar and I sold my soul.
A bassist and a drummer and a common goal,
Set to conquer this world playing rock and roll,
But the road gets old, and it takes it's toll.
And when I wasn't looking, life went by too fast,
I guess that nothing positive is built to last,
Now I'm reminiscing, missing over photographs,
Of a time I had hope, but that's a time long past.
So I'm giving out the fliers to promote my show,
While I follow down the road that my heroes go,
From the curt Cobains, to the Billy Joes,
To the Iggy pops, to the Joey ramones.
I wrote a song or two about not giving up,
About getting fucked up and not giving a fuck.
And I'll always be a poser because my sound is too pop,
And it's just another drug that I can't seem to stop.
Played with hardcore, skater, straight edge, grind and thrash,
And screamo, metal, indie, hipster, mathrock crap.
But I've never cared much for any of that,
I've just did my thing and tried to stay on track.
I've kissed a lot of women as I've done my tour,
Sometimes I'd lose, other times I'd score.
Now they're tearing down my picture off their bedroom door,
Because the music once ruled, but It's not cool no more.
Made a bargain with fate thinking I'd go far,
Because it always told me I'd be a star.
From the social halls, to the empty bars,
But I'm doing 9-5 cuz I followed my heart.
I've seen the highs and I've seen the lows,
As the trends will rise and the friends all go.
But I'll never give it up because that's all I know,
And I'm sure you won't go, but I'll see ya at the show.
And in the end, I guess that I'll still be spinning wheels,
While the bands I grew up playing with get record deals.
But I'll keep rocking out like I don't give a fuck,
I should go back to college and just give it up,
But I was born ambitious baby, ain't it just my luck?
