For the small months to return
In a while or pretty soon
Or pretty soon or in a while
Either way the time's delayed
Haven't seen them in a while
They went missing with the light
It turns its back on you
The maple calls you, shows you something new
No more chances
They won't fall for you
No more chances
Idle ski lifts have it right
Simple patience and resign
So it seems it's been a while
It's been a while or so it seems
Either way, the time's between
The white oak can't stand you, loves to leave you out
The maple shows you how it loves to get around
No more chances
It's all coming true
No more chances
They won't fall for you
No more chances
They won't fall for you
No more chances
The lyrics of Matt Pond PA's song "No More" evoke the feeling of waiting for something that may never come back, and the realization that it may be too late for second chances. The opening lines, "In April Pennsylvania waits / For the small months to return," almost set a melancholic tone as the singer is waiting for something to happen. The next lines, "In a while or pretty soon / Or pretty soon or in a while / Either way the time's delayed" suggest that this something may not happen anytime soon, and time may not necessarily be on the singer's side.
The next stanza reveals that the singer hasn't seen whoever they are waiting for in a while, and they "went missing with the light." This can signify something that was once bright and promising has now faded away. The imagery of the white oak turning its back on the singer when it has no answer and the maple revealing something new to the singer shows that sometimes the things we expect to provide answers may not always deliver.
The choruses of "no more chances / they won't fall for you" implies that there have been previous opportunities for the singer to make things right, but they haven't taken them. The last stanza, "The white oak can't stand you, loves to leave you out / The maple shows you how it loves to get around," shows the finality of the situation - one opportunity has been lost, and the other doesn't necessarily care about the singer's feelings. Overall, the song speaks to the idea of regret and the importance of taking chances when they arise.

This song and the album from whence it came are solid gold. Why this doesn't have 6 million views confounds me. After all, he's one of the best singer-songwriters alive.
