In A World Called Catastrophe
Matthew Good Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Another day of decomposing light
In a world called catastrophe
My native tongue is blasphemy
So it's the one I'll write
And baby, can you feel it
And don't it make you wanna lay down
Baby, can you feel it
Don't it make you wanna lay down
And close your eyes
Remember how we started
Cause since then, I'm a waste
Since then, I'm a fool
Since then, I'm a dog
In a world called catastrophe
Since then, I'm a waste
Here it comes and there it goes
Another day of getting up to fight
In a world called catastrophe
My native tongue is blasphemy
So that's the one I'll write
And baby, can you hear it
And don't it make you wanna wake up
And open your eyes
Baby, can you hear it
Don't it make you wanna wake up
And open your eyes
Remember how we started
Cause since then, I'm a waste
Remember how we started
Cause since then, I'm a waste
Remember how we started
Cause since then, I'm a waste
Remember how we started
Cause since then, I'm a waste
Since then, I'm a fool
Since then, I'm a dog
In a world called catastrophe
Since then, I'm a waste
The lyrics of "In A World Called Catastrophe" by Matthew Good appear to be a commentary on the state of the world, with the singer expressing a sense of disillusionment and despair. The first stanza sets a tone of hopelessness, with the days seeming to blend together in an endless cycle of decay. The use of the word "blasphemy" suggests that the singer is frustrated with the world's systems and values, and feels that their own way of life is fundamentally at odds with the prevailing norms.
The chorus seems to offer a possible escape from this bleak reality, with the idea of laying down and closing one's eyes creating a sense of surrender or relinquishing control. However, it's unclear if this is meant to be read as a positive or negative response to the world's chaos. The second verse continues in the same vein, with the singer feeling like a "waste" and a "fool" in a world that seems to demand conformity and compliance.
The repetition of the phrase "remember how we started" towards the end of the song is particularly poignant, as it suggests a longing for a time when things were simpler and more hopeful. Overall, the lyrics of "In A World Called Catastrophe" paint a picture of a society in decline, and a protagonist who is struggling to find meaning or purpose in the face of overwhelming chaos.

Fortunately this man knows how to let it all out, instead of keeping the pain hidden, he transfer that energy into great music.

Fav Matthew good Band song = Prime time deliverance, Fav Video = In a world called Catastrophe. Lovvvvvvvve the song and video. I can see someday Matt good being honored for his contributions to Canadian music at the Juno's someday with some sort of hall of fame award and it being his first award ever accepted at the Juno's officially. At least I hope the Juno's are smart enough to honor this guy and I hope Matt Good is "good" enough to accept it. Be a class act by both sides!
