Sinking Wishes
Matthew Perryman Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've thrown them out
Fumbling to the floor to wait
What follows now
Let it go
Only wishes wait
I'm taking a chance to find
I'm taking a chance this time
On you
I've got nothing to loose
Climbing onto giant shoulders
And looking out
Longing eyes scan for a sign
Where are you now
I don't know
So I'll fall on faith
I'm taking a chance to find
What's real inside
I'm taking a chance this time
On you
I've got nothing to loose
I don't mind facing it all
Well, do you now
I won't lay under a fog
I'm moving toward you
The lyrics of Matthew Perryman Jones's song Sinking Wishes describe a moment of clarity in the midst of uncertainty. The singer has thrown their wishes into the water and recognizes that they must let them go, recognizing that only wishes wait. Although the future is unclear, they are taking a chance to seek out what is real inside themselves and are placing their trust in someone else. They climb onto giant shoulders, scanning for a sign of hope, and express their willingness to face whatever comes their way. They won't lay under a fog, but are actively moving towards the person they are putting their faith in.
