Until the Last Falling Star
Matthew Perryman Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That we could be lovers
I'd write you a book
Of handwritten letters
And burn them all up to the end
Just to start over again
If there was a chance
That we could be lovers
I'd learn how to dance
And to hold without touching
Oh love
Where have you been
I'll wait for your lead to come in
So tell me the secret
Is there a way into your heart
'Cause I want to believe it
Oh will I be wishing
Until the last falling star
If there was a chance
That we could be lovers
I'd swim seven oceans
And keep going further
I'd hold my breath until
You slipped those words
That belong on your lips
So tell me the secret
Is there a way into your heart
'Cause I want to believe it
Oh will I be wishing
Until the last falling star
Say a line
Could be anything
Just stay with me
Tonight
So tell me the secret
Is there a way into your heart
'Cause I want to believe it
Oh will I be wishing
Until the last falling star
So tell me a secret
Is there a way into your heart
'Cause I want to believe it
Oh will I be wishing
I'll keep on wishing
Until the last falling star
The lyrics of Matthew Perryman Jones's song "Until the Last Falling Star" explore the theme of unrequited love and the lengths one would go to in order to win the heart of another. The singer expresses his desire to be with his lover and his willingness to do anything to make it happen. He imagines writing a book of handwritten letters and burning them all, just to start over again. He would even swim seven oceans to win her heart. The desperation in his voice is palpable, as he asks for the secret to her heart and wonders if he will be wishing until the last falling star.
The song's chorus is both heartbreaking and hopeful. On the one hand, the singer knows that his love may not be returned and that he may be wishing for something he can never have. On the other hand, he is still holding out hope that there may be a way into her heart. He asks for a line, anything to keep him close to her for just one more night. The repetition of the chorus highlights the singer's persistent yearning for love, even when it may seem impossible.
Overall, "Until the Last Falling Star" is a powerful song about the lengths we will go to for love and the bittersweet reality of unrequited love. The singer's raw emotion is conveyed through his powerful vocals and the haunting music that accompanies them.
