There are a lot of ways to become famous. All of them can be divided into two groups :
- when you work hard;
- when the show-business itself starts helping you.
The second way kills art and becomes just a way to make money. It's easy, efficient, but short-lived. The first way is opposite to the second one.
Matthew That (real name is Yevhen Briukhatskyi) is a musician, a producer and an arranger. He works in the direction of independent electronic music. He was born in the capital of Ukraine Kiev in 1990 (aged 20 now).
In early childhood Eugene was fond of drawing and collecting coins. He started loving music at the age of 13, after listening to representatives of classic rock: The Scorpions, The Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Over the years the range of musical preferences became wider. It is easy to see a huge variety of styles and trends among his favourite bands: Coldplay, Iron Maiden, Muse, Oasis, AC / DC, Owl City and many others.
In 2005 Yevhen took all the necessary CD software for making music and immediately began to compose music even without having musical education. His first tracks were created on the basis of ready-made samples. In 2006-2007 he studied a lot of software for creating music and he practiced a lot. In 2008, after he had been given a piano, he wrote his first track.
Initially Yevhen planned to start his own band, but soon he realized that he could perform his music by himself. Under the stage name Matthew That he put to the Internet the first instrumental composition "I never shall forget". Despite the fact that this was his first song, it was immediately sold and the file was downloaded over 10000 times during the first week. This inspired Matthew to the further creation, and during 2008 more his tracks appeared in the Internet.
You can hear the influence of the British electronic and post-rock scene from the very first track of Matthew That. According to the musician's own words, Coldplay, Keane, OneRepublic,The Killers and The Postal Service had the greatest influence on his music.
At the moment the most successful work is Clap, clap girl (2009), written together with vocalist of Plastic Fantastic! - Jen Beugen.
In addition to musical activities, Matthew That is well known for his own project «MATTHEW THAT'S INDIE-MUSIC CHART», which notes the most interesting and the newest independent music.
