Tearing my heart in two, doing what you do, best
Taking me for a ride, telling me pretty little lies
But with you, I can't resist
Before I met you, I never felt good enough
Before I let you, in, I'd already given up
Left on read, no reply, left me just wondering why
So when you hold my hand, do you wanna hold my heart?
When you say you want me, is it all of me or just one part?
When you hold my hand, do you wanna hold my heart?
When you say you want me, oh
Momma said there'd be boys like you
Tearing my heart in two, doing what you do, best
Taking me for a ride, telling me pretty little lies
But with you, I can't resist
Maybe momma doesn't always know best
Maybe momma doesn't always know best
I'm terrified, but I'll never let you know
Social suicide, if I ever let it show
Everything feels just right
We fall in place, we fall in line
I'll never let you go
So when you hold my hand, do you wanna hold my heart?
When you say you want me, is it all of me or just one part?
When you hold my hand, do you wanna hold my heart?
When you say you want me, hey ooh
Momma said there'd be boys like you
Tearing my heart in two, doing what you do, best
Taking me for a ride, telling me pretty little lies
But with you, I can't resist
Maybe momma doesn't always know best
Maybe momma doesn't always know best
So when you hold me, am I the only one?
Do you wanna know me, or is this all just for fun?
Momma said there'd be boys like you
Tearing my heart in two, doing what you do, best
Taking me for a ride, telling me pretty little lies
But with you, I can't resist
Momma said there'd be boys like you
Too good to be true, doing what you do, best
Taking me for a ride, telling me pretty little lies
But for you, but for you, for you I'll take the risk
In Maty Noyes's song "Boys Like You," the singer is reflecting on her tumultuous relationship with a boy who tears her heart in two, takes her for a ride, and tells her pretty little lies. The singer's mother had warned her about boys like him, but she finds herself unable to resist him, despite feeling skeptical of love. The singer is terrified but determined to keep their relationship a secret, out of fear of social suicide. She questions whether this boy really wants all of her or just one part of her, and whether she is the only one when he holds her. Despite the risks, the singer is willing to take a chance on this boy because she finds him too good to be true.
In the first verse of "Boys Like You," the singer expresses the doubts and concerns that she has about this boy who she is attracted to. She acknowledges that her mother had warned her about boys like him, but she still finds herself drawn to him despite the fact that he tears her heart in two. The singer feels skeptical of love and hears herself wondering whether he wants her entirely or just a part of her. The singer struggles with the fear of being hurt by this boy who seems too good to be true.
In the chorus, Maty Noyes repeats the sentence "Momma said there'd be boys like you" to reinforce the idea that the singer's mother had warned her of men like the one she is enamored with. The boy is described as taking the singer for a ride and telling her pretty little lies, but the singer still cannot resist him. The repetition of the sentence underscores the fact that the singer knows that this boy is not good for her, yet she still finds herself attracted to him.
