(1) A French pop singer, Maude Gabrielle Harcheb
(2) A Manila-based pop/rock band formed in 2012
(3) A punk band from Eastern Connecticut active in the early to mid-1990s, influential players in the scene that coalesced around Vandal Children Records. Previously named People Like Frank, the band's poppy, infectious music often drew comparison to the bands then featured on California's Lookout Records. Maude released one 7" EP while the band was active, called "The Birdhouse EP" on Vandal Children. They recorded songs for a second record that went unreleased until Youth Power Records released them as the "Grace Beats Karma" EP after the band had broken up. Members of the band went on to play in Mi6, Pageant, and the Casual Dots, among other bands;

In Maude's song Cool, she starts by asking someone to turn on the music and watch her shine. Maude feels confident and comfortable being herself and is grateful to all those who have supported her (including "toi" (you), "vous" (you all), and "lui" (him)). She then invites someone to come and listen to the music and laugh together when everything appears chaotic. In the chorus, Maude makes it clear that no matter what anyone says, she and her friends are cool, and they're not going to let anyone bring them down. People may judge her and point out her flaws, but Maude believes that nobody can do better than her, and she has all they need.
Maude believes that fame isn't the most crucial aspect of life, and all she desires is to be happy. She identifies herself as "Maude la girl next door" and hangs out in the most fashionable district, the "carré d'or." In the second chorus, Maude stays true to what she said in the first, despite being called famous, she doesn't care as her happiness is what matters to her. She continues to emphasize that nobody can stop her or her friends from making progress, even though others may say otherwise. In the bridge, Maude reinforces that she is unfazed by what the journals write about their values and that their "noes" won't frighten her. They shine bright tonight.
