nikka costa lahir di tokyo pd thn 1972, disaat dia berumur 7 th dia telah memiliki album natal, bersama ayahnya, dia trus mengembangkan bakat musicnya. selang brapa bulan stelah album on my own, launching ayahnya pun meninggal mendadak. konser terakhir yg terdengar ke publik saat salah satu station tv mengundang beliau, untuk lagu tembang kenangan, dan beliau membawakan lagu my first love dengan bercucuran air mata di susul dengan lagu on my own yg penuh emosional menyanyikannya.
