In the televoting of the final show on March 19, 2004 Max defeated nine other competitors (including established artists like Scooter or Sabrina Setlur). A majority of 92,95 % of all votes made him the German entry for the 49th Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, where he finished eighth with 93 points.
Thereupon the singer went back to school and passed his final high school examination, before teaming up with Raab once again to finish his self titled solo album in summer 2004. The record, a mixture of Funk, Soul and Pop in German and in English language, debuted at #1 on the German album charts and spawned the singles "Schwarz Auf Weiß", "Spür Dein Licht" and "Catch Me If You Can". From May to June 2005 Max then went on a club tour across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, before touring with Katie Melua.
Currently, Max is working on his sophomore album.
Smile
Max Mutzke Lyrics

Yes I feel like living here without scope
Then you crash into my life, like a bullet
From the sky – And I knew I have seen
So many different faces – Yes I knew from
Many different places – Then you sprang out
Of the crowd – And I remember you again
Smile, smile, smile, will you ever see
Then when you came into my life,
I just missed a beat - Smile, smile, smile,
Gonna set me free, gonna set me free
We ware gone away from the mainstream
And we need no guarantee to be here
We're just different from the rest
We have to face the test
Then you sprang out of the crowd
I remember you again
Smile, smile, smile, just for me
Smile, smile, smile, will you ever see
Then when you came into my life,
I just missed a beat - Smile, smile, smile,
Gonna set me free, gonna set me free
I just need an application
For another good sensation
Will it last forever now?
Smile, smile, smile…
Gonna set me free
The lyrics to Max Mutzke's song "Smile" depict a sense of feeling lost or stuck in a monotonous routine until someone unexpected enters your life and brings back that spark of joy and excitement. The first verse compares the feeling of being on a tightrope, trying to balance and navigate through life without any direction or scope. But then, like a bullet crashing from the sky, this person enters their life and changes everything. The second verse emphasizes that the two individuals are different from the mainstream and don't need any guarantee to be where they are. They face a test in their unique relationship, but the connection they share is too strong to let go. The chorus repeats the message of the song, urging the person to smile and set them free.
The lyrics of "Smile" convey the idea that unexpected moments and people can make a significant impact on one's life. Additionally, it expresses the idea that two people can connect through their differences, and those differences can create a unique and fulfilling relationship.
