Funny
Maxine Brown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Funny, but when I pass your door
I don't hurt like before
Really, I think I'm over you

It's funny, but when I
Hear them speak your name
This little heart no
No, no, no, no longer pains
Like it did the day
You said we were through

I loved you, oh, so long
I wondered what went wrong
You shattered my dreams
Yes, you hurt my pride

My love you threw away
All I could do was pray
But, darling, you
You didn't care how I cried

Funny, but when I
Meet you on the street
My little heart no
No, no, no, no
Longer skips a beat
Like it did the day
You said we were through

It's funny, I think
I've gotten over you

Overall Meaning

The song "Funny" by Maxine Brown is about moving on from a past love. Brown sings about passing her ex-lover's door and feeling less pain than before. She goes on to say that hearing her ex's name no longer causes her heart to ache as it did when they first broke up. Brown reflects on the love they once shared and how it fell apart, causing her heartbreak and shattered dreams. Despite her love for him, her ex threw their relationship away without a care for her feelings. However, as time passes, Brown finds that her heart no longer skips a beat when she sees her ex on the street, and she realizes that she's getting over him.

Through her lyrics, Maxine Brown speaks to anyone who has experienced the sadness and heartbreak of a lost love. She celebrates the power of time to heal old wounds and prove that there is life after heartbreak. She acknowledges the pain that comes with a breakup and the difficulty of moving on, but ultimately, she finds hope in the possibility of healing and the promise of new beginnings.

Maxine Brown is NOT DEAD!!. THE one you referring to is a Country Singer Maxine Brown (1931-2019). Just like Johnnie Taylor and Little Johnny Taylor. Two different people who unfortunately sound VERY ALIKE!!!!! Almost hard to tell who is who!!!
