1) Maxine Ella Brown (born 18 August 1939, in Kingstree, South Carolina) is an American soul singer.
She began singing as a child, performing with two New York based gospel groups when she was a teenager. In 1960, she signed with the small Nomar record label, who released the smooth soul ballad "All in My Mind" late in the year. The single became a hit, climbing to number two on the R&B charts (number 19 pop), and it was quickly followed by "Funny", which peaked at number three. Brown was poised to become a star, and she moved to ABC-Paramount in 1962, but left the label within a year and signed to the New York based, uptown soul label, Wand, in 1963.
Brown recorded her best work at Wand, having a string of moderate hits for the label over the next three years. Among these were the Carole King / Gerry Goffin song "Oh No Not My Baby", which reached number 24 on the pop charts; "It's Gonna Be Alright"; and several duets with Chuck Jackson. However, the label focused much of their attention on Dionne Warwick, leaving Maxine Brown to toil in semi-obscurity.
In 1969, she left Wand and signed first with Commonwealth United and then Avco Records, but her later recordings met with little commercial success. Despite her lack of hits, Brown is acknowledged as one of the finest R&B vocalists of her time, capable of delivering soul, jazz, and pop with equal aplomb.
2) Maxine Brown (April 27, 1931 – January 21, 2019) was an American country music singer who was originally a member of the successful 1950s trio the Browns, before a brief solo career.

I just can't face the world
I can't help feelin' kinda small.
I let you go one day
But now I ain't ashamed to say
I need you, I know that I need you
For without your love I'm just no good at all
Oh, I need you to confide in (Yes, I do)
I need you to take pride in (Yes I do)
I need your shoulder to cry on (Yes I do)
You're all I've got to rely on
And that's why I need you
Baby baby baby
take me back again
I couldn't admit to you the,
It's sad how much
I need you. I need you
I guess I lost my head
Cause I know I must have said
A lot of things to make you cry
I've made myself a lonely man
But now I've come to understand how much
I need you, I tell you I need you
And I'm gonna keep needing you till the day I die
Oh, I need you to confide in (Yes, I do)
I need you to take pride in (Yes I do)
I need your shoulder to cry on (Yes I do)
You're all I've got to rely on
And that's why I need you
Baby baby baby take me back again
I couldn't admit to you the,
It's sad how much
I need you. I need you
The song "I Need You" by Maxine Brown is a soulful, heartfelt love song about a man who just can't seem to live without his partner. At the beginning of the song, the singer expresses how he feels lost and small since losing the love of his life. He is not ashamed to confess that he needs her and without her love, he feels he is no good at all. The main chorus of "I Need You," repeats multiple times, where the singer pleads with his lover to confide in him, take pride in him, and to rely on him. Throughout the song, he also acknowledges that he must have said or done things that made his partner cry, but now he realizes how much he needs her and he is willing to keep needing her till the end of his days.
Maxine Brown delivers a powerful and soulful performance that captivates the listener's heart. Her voice carries the emotion and feeling that the lyrics convey. The song was written by William "Mickey" Stephenson and Ivy Jo Hunter, and it was released in 1968 under the Wand record label. It is interesting to note that the song did not chart highly when it was released but has gained popularity over the years and is now considered a classic love song.
