1) Maxine Ella Brown (born 18 August 1939, in Kingstree, South Carolina) is an American soul singer.
She began singing as a child, performing with two New York based gospel groups when she was a teenager. In 1960, she signed with the small Nomar record label, who released the smooth soul ballad "All in My Mind" late in the year. The single became a hit, climbing to number two on the R&B charts (number 19 pop), and it was quickly followed by "Funny", which peaked at number three. Brown was poised to become a star, and she moved to ABC-Paramount in 1962, but left the label within a year and signed to the New York based, uptown soul label, Wand, in 1963.
Brown recorded her best work at Wand, having a string of moderate hits for the label over the next three years. Among these were the Carole King / Gerry Goffin song "Oh No Not My Baby", which reached number 24 on the pop charts; "It's Gonna Be Alright"; and several duets with Chuck Jackson. However, the label focused much of their attention on Dionne Warwick, leaving Maxine Brown to toil in semi-obscurity.
In 1969, she left Wand and signed first with Commonwealth United and then Avco Records, but her later recordings met with little commercial success. Despite her lack of hits, Brown is acknowledged as one of the finest R&B vocalists of her time, capable of delivering soul, jazz, and pop with equal aplomb.
2) Maxine Brown (April 27, 1931 – January 21, 2019) was an American country music singer who was originally a member of the successful 1950s trio the Browns, before a brief solo career.

If you gotta make a fool of someone
Do you really gotta hurt me
I'm the one that'll worry
I worry about you, yeah
If you gotta make a fool of somebody
If you gotta to make a fool of someoneDo you really gotta hurt me
I'm the one that worries
Always true, yeah
Now listen to me
The day time, the night time
Anytime at all
I'll rush to your side
Anytime you call
Just to be near you, you know
Anywhere I go
How could you hurt me so
If you gotta make a fool of somebody
If you gotta make a fool of someone
Do you really gotta hurt me
Oh, I'm the one that'll worries
I worry about you, yeah
Take it easy, baby
Don't try to hurt me
If you try to hurt me, baby...
The lyrics of Maxine Brown's “If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody” speaks to the situation where someone is in love with another person who they worry is taking advantage of them emotionally. The song highlights the singer's love for the other person, and how they are willing to be there for them no matter what, even if the other person is hurting them. The singer knows that they are being made a fool of but they still care deeply for the other person and hope for the best.
In the first verse, the singer questions why the person they are in love with wants to hurt them, even though they are willing to stay true to them. The chorus repeats the same question, highlighting the singer’s constant thoughts about the situation. The second verse talks about how the singer is willing to be there for the person they love anytime they need them. The last section of the song is a plea to the other person to take it easy and not hurt them, for fear that they will hurt the singer's love for them.
