The song "Falaha" by May Hariri portrays the struggles of a farmer woman working on the fields, who is often looked down upon by society for her less glamorous lifestyle. The title "Falaha" translates to "farmer woman" in English. The lyrics describe how the woman is proud of her work and her identity, despite the criticism she receives from others who think that she should aspire for a more sophisticated way of living. The line "Mabhibbesh leih, Leh deh ana ghalbana," which means "Why don't I love it? Why, because I'm tired" reflects her exhaustion from working in agriculture.
The second half of the song portrays the woman's failed love relationship, emphasizing how she cannot force herself to love someone who does not appreciate her work and identity. The lines "Ma aqdarsh ahwak wla a'esh waayak" means "I cannot love you, nor can I live with you." May Hariri showcases the tension between the falaha identity and modern love in the song.
Overall, "Falaha" is a tribute to the pride and strength of the farmer woman, who works hard despite the societal misconceptions and the struggles that come along with being a part of that community.
