The dusk gradient is subtly reflected in their emotions, as they start to feel distant from each other. There is a deep yearning for more explanation and a need to be held tightly. The singer is begging for an answer, but the only response she receives is him leaving.
The chorus suggests that they both know that the other is lying but refuse to acknowledge it. They are searching for closure in the form of goodbyes, but they are too afraid to express their genuine feelings. They cannot face each other and avoid staring into each other's eyes. In the second part of the song, the singer reveals that if he was the one who wished to separate, then he should speak the truth. They were meant to be free from their bonds of love, but now they must return to being friends like before. The chorus once again emphasizes that they both are aware of each other's lies, and the singer cries out of her unrequited love.
