Early Life
Mayowa was born on March 23, 1994 in Osun State.[5] He is the first child of three, born into a family of entertainers. His mother is a Nollywood actress and his father, an artist and movie producer. Mayowa was part of the choir at a very young age where he, according to him, "learnt the rudiments of music".[6] He has a degree in accounting from the University of Lagos, and was in a banking job before he was discovered in 2016.[7]
Music Career
Mayowa decided to leave his bank job to search for another due to bad pay, when his cover video was spotted by Davido in February 2016.[8] Davido followed him on twitter and Instagram, after which Davido asked him if he can do more than play the keyboard. He got a call from Davido the same day he wrote his resignation letter[9] and sent Davido some of the songs he already recorded. Davido decided to sign him to Davido Music Worldwide.[10] Mayowa released his first single under the label called "Eleko" in 2016. The video of the song gathered a million views in the first 10 days.[11][12] To his name, Mayowa has several singles including Yawa, Sade, Che Che, and Mama. In October 2018, he released singles "Posh" and "Fantasy" featuring Olu Maintain[13] in anticipation of his first studio album titled "The Mayor of Lagos".[14]. The Mayor of Lagos was released on the 16th of November 2018.[15] On December 1, 2018, it appeared on the Billboard World Albums chart, peaking at number 15.[16]

The song "Sope" by Mayorkun is a celebration of gratitude, success, and blessings. The opening lines of the song confirm the location as the singer's hometown, Ile-Ife, in Nigeria. The next lines go on to acknowledge the abundance of wealth and good health, thanking God for the blessings.
In the chorus, Mayorkun encourages listeners to be grateful and appreciate their own successes, saying "Sope ti e sope, Ade sope, Omo lope, Oya gbope ti e sope," which roughly translates to "Be grateful, be content, be blessed, and show gratitude."
In the third verse, Mayorkun raps about having everything one could need, but not being able to enjoy it because of jealousy and envy from others. He acknowledges that every day is a blessing and ends the verse with the same call to be grateful and show thanks.
Overall, the song is a joyful and upbeat celebration of success and blessings. It encourages listeners to appreciate what they have and let go of the negativity that comes from others' envy and jealousy.
