La Abejita
Mazapán Lyrics

la menor del panal
moviendo sus alitas
se va un día a viajar
Un sombrerito se pone
anteojos y sombrillas
collares de botones
Con su disfraz de señora
al mercado va a comprar
un dedal de ricas horas
otro dedal de manjar
Con sus alitas cargadas
ella no puede volar
en metro se va sentada
y regresa al panal
The lyrics to Mazapán's song "La Abejita" describe a little bee who is the smallest of her hive but is eager to explore the world. She puts on accessories like hats, sunglasses, and necklaces made of buttons and even wears a dress made from the material of a cigar. She tries to disguise herself as a mature woman to go out to the market to buy a "dedal de ricas horas" and a "dedal de manjar". Despite her preparations she is unable to fly with her wings loaded down, so she takes the metro to complete her errands and returns to the hive.
This song can be seen as a fable, in which the bee embodies the idea of the individual who tries to change his identity to get what he wants, but fails because he doesn't have the ability to be anything other than himself. The bee's attempt at putting on a "disfraz de señora" implies the idea of not accepting oneself as they are, and making poor decisions as a result. The story encourages listeners to embrace their authentic selves and recognize that their limitations are part of what makes them unique.
