Born and brought up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo M'bilia Bel became successful in the mid-1980s when she recorded and toured with Tabu Ley Rochereau, and made her own solo albums. The birth of her first child prompted her to take a break from performing, however, and after a last album with Ley in 1987, she moved to Paris. There she started working with guitarist Rigo Star, and between 1989 and 1990 she went on to tour the United States, the United Kingdom, and West Africa.
She has released 4 albums since 1990. M'bilia continues to wear her crown as Queen of Congolese rumba.

The song Sans Frontiere by Mbilia Bel is a love song about a woman named Meo who is deeply in love with a man named Veya. Meo pleads with Veya to come to her quickly because she belongs to him and she loves him. She assures him that their love has no boundaries and that they belong together despite their age difference and any other societal factors that might try to keep them apart. Meo sings of her love for Veya and how willing she is to be with him no matter what.
The song also touches on the idea of love without boundaries or limitations, as Mbilia Bel sings about a love that transcends national borders and unites the people of Africa. The song encourages people to look beyond their own countries and embrace love and unity with others. Meo and Veya's love is used to symbolize the power of love to bring people together and overcome differences.
Overall, Sans Frontiere is a beautiful love song that speaks to the power of love to overcome any barrier.
