McEnroe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to McEnroe's song Montreal are a reflection of the memories and nostalgia that the singer has been experiencing lately. Throughout the song, he thinks back to a time when things were different, and he had someone special by his side. The lyrics are full of little details that paint a picture of the past, like walking and cooking together, the other person's accuracy with shooting, watching the Montreal World Cup on TV, and even making gazpacho together.
These memories seem to be both comforting and painful for the singer. He is reminded of how much he misses the other person's company and how they used to enjoy simple pleasures together. However, he also realizes that things have changed between them, and he feels like he has become a fixture in a museum that the other person never visits. The lyrics are full of yearning and regret, which are amplified by the slow, contemplative melody of the song.
Overall, Montreal is a poignant and bittersweet reflection on the passage of time and the changes it brings to relationships.

Today I thought of you while walking, knowing I don't enjoy it much
How you assembled that arsenal, never wanting it to explode
And I thought of you while cooking, knowing nothing tastes good to me
How you shot randomly, always hitting the mark
And I thought of you in front of the TV, watching the Montreal World Cup
There was a time when you made gazpacho to eat
Vino tinto y conversación, sincronizando la natación
Red wine and conversation, synchronizing swimming
Hoy he pensado en ti antes de dormir, ya sabes que no lo he vuelto a conseguir
Today I thought of you before sleeping, knowing I haven't been able to do it again
How you circled around me, in a thunderous silence
I've become a mineral, in a museum you never visit
There was a time when you made gazpacho to eat

And on top of the diving board, double somersaults before sleeping
Now I often swim entire pools without knowing if you still remember who I am, if you do, tell me...

"... Y ahora suelo recorrer
