Just Because
McGuire Sisters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well-now just because you think you're so pretty,
Just because your Mama thinks you're hot (you're not! )
Just because you think you've got something,
That no - body else has got.

(You've got that certain nothin'! )

You know you made me spend all my money
You laughed, and called me old Santa Claus.
Well I'm telling you, honey, I'm through with you,
Because, just be - cause.

Oh, just because you think I'll be lonesome,
Just because you think I'll be blue,
Just because you think I'd be foolish
To stay around at home and wait for you.

Though you made me drop all my fortune,
You laughed, and called me old Santa Claus.
Well I'm telling you, honey, I'm through with you,

Because, just be - cause,
Because, just be - cause

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the McGuire Sisters' song "Just Because" tell the story of a man who realizes that he has been used by a woman who thinks she is better than him. The first stanza is a sarcastic reflection on how the woman thinks she is pretty and unique while in reality, she is not. The phrase "you've got that certain nothing" is ironic and implies that the woman is not special in any way. The man goes on to say that the woman has made him spend all his money and has used him like Santa Claus.

In the second stanza, the man tells the woman that he is not going to stay around waiting for her anymore. He is not going to be lonesome or blue just because she thinks he will be. The man acknowledges that the woman has made him drop all his fortune but now he is through with her. He uses the phrase "just because" throughout the song to express his grievances with the way the woman has treated him. Overall, the lyrics of "Just Because" are a warning to the woman that the man is not going to take any more of her manipulations.

I love how not only was music at its greatest during the 1960’s but they also had amazing variety from rock and roll of Elvis, Beatles, Motown like the supremes, nostalgic 1940’s and 50’s nostalgia type new music like this song from the MGwire sisters Andy Williams, Sinatra and psychedelic stuff, Everthing!!!
I’am glad to have my children enjoy it.

The golden Age of Entertainment of music, film and television was definitely the previous century. No need to pay attention to anything from the 1990’s onward.

Too bad the quality couldn’t last forever but though nobody probably ever gave it any thought back then, perhaps they naturally assumed that quality always would last since it always had back then.

I’m glad we’ll keep having access to all that golden age of entertainment from Blu-ray’s to streaming to YouTube and tge ef Sullivan channel so it all can be enjoyed appreciated and popular forever!

I really love the background singers! I feel they add a lot to the presentation. "Just Because" was the latest single by the McGuire Sisters and charted at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1961. It was their last record to reach the Hot 100. As always, the harmonies of the McGuires are fantastic.

the Background singers sound silly, like a bunch of dominatrix whipped wimps.

Magnificent: the fabulous McGuire Sisters. Thank you so much for this great upload. Could you please post the big biography medley they did on the show? It included fragments of all their million sellers. But any performance by the McGuires would be great! Uploads of Connie Francis, Patti Page, Kay Starr and Vikki Carr would also be very much appreciated!
