McKee Bonnie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I sit alone
A dark theater watchin' the people go by
Hand in hand
Everybody but me
Oh

I stay behind
Watchin' the credits roll by
Roll roll roll right by me

I know, I won't cry
'Cause there is somebody somebody somebody waitin' for me
Out in the rain

Won't cry
Not tonight
Because there is somebody waitin' for me
Oh yeah

I take a walk
The streets are busy tonight
And I am searching for you
Waiting to brush your shoulder
But I'm alone
I watch the faces roll by
Roll roll roll right by me

But I know, I won't cry
'Cause there's somebody somebody somebody waitin' for me
Out in the rain

Won't
Not tonight
Because there is somebody waitin' for me

How many words will go unspoken
Til I hear knocking upon my door,
I'm losing track of the nights I spend heartbroken
but tonight I know I won't cry no more
Oh

I lie awake
I left the porch light on
I hope it helps you to find your way
Outside
I hear the thunder roll by
Roll roll roll right by me

But I know, I won't cry
'Cause there is somebody somebody somebody waitin' for me
Out in the rain
Not gonna cry tonight
No cause there is somebody waitin' for me
Not gonna cry tonight
No
No no no no
Oh
Not gonna cry
Not tonight cause there is somebody waitin' for me

I stay behind

Watchin' the credits roll by
Roll roll roll right by me

Overall Meaning

The song "Somebody" by Bonnie McKee is about being alone and longing for someone special to come along. The first verse sets the scene in a dark theater where the singer watches people in pairs and feels lonely. Even as the credits roll by at the end of the movie, she stays behind hoping for a chance encounter with someone who could fill the void. She sings about walking the busy streets searching for someone to brush shoulders with, but no one stops to notice her. Despite feeling heartbroken and losing track of the nights spent alone, the chorus brings a sense of hope by repeating the refrain that there is somebody waiting for her out in the rain.

The theme of the song is relatable to anyone who has felt alone at some point, and the imagery of the rain and waiting creates a sense of melancholy that is both beautiful and sad. The song's melody is catchy and upbeat, but it also has a haunting quality that resonates with the lyrics. The bridge of the song brings in more emotion and vulnerability as the singer questions how many words will go unspoken until someone comes knocking on her door. However, she ends on a positive note stating that she won't cry tonight because there is somebody waiting for her.

I fist saw Bonnie on Jimmy Kimmel back in 2005. I remember I was 18. I was just on the computer, and I heard this song playing on TV. I instantly ran to see who it was. I was immediately hooked. Cant explain why, but I was immediately a fan. It was so beautiful to watch. If anyone can find that video, that'd be great! Anyways, I went online to find tickets for her show. It said she was opening for Ryan Cabrera at the Wiltshire theater in L.A.

Now, I was 18, and had never traveled alone, but I was obsessed with the girl and her music lol So I took a flight from Sac, and made my way to the show! I even got a picture with her afterwards. That solo trip to LA gave me the confidence to travel the entire world when I was 19. I spent the next 6 years after that on an amazing adventure.

I wonder if I'd had the guts to do that if I didn't first go see her perform?

The last I heard about Bonnie was on her website forum. She said she was going into song writing "because that's where the money is" as she said. That was in like 2006. It wasnt until recently that I found out she was writing songs for Katy Perry and other big names!

Glad to see she's doing well. She has a ton of talent. She's a very unique artist. I'll admit though, I was a little underwhelmed with her newer stuff. She still looks hot though!

I really loved this album back in the day. I heard one of her songs in a lifetime movie and bought the album. Could never understand why she wasn’t a huge pop star at the time. Such a talented songwriter... and those triple octave changes... what a voice!

Wow i was 15 when this came out. My friends were always in relationships but i was always just the friend. I remember listening to this song over and over being so lonely it gave my sad young heart hope. Man being a teenager is a very emotionally tough time. Now i have a 14yr old son and 11yr old daughter. Time flies
