Formed in Montgomery, Alabama by Derek Welsh (vocals and guitar), Michael Powers (guitar), Richard Hatcher (bass) and Chris Welsh (drums). Renowned producer Tom Werman was so impressed with their demo that he personally asked to work with the band. Billy Idol and Vince Neil guitarist Steve Stevens also helped produce and lent his hand to some guitar work on the debut album, but unfortunately the album sank and the band disappeared without a trace.
A second album was rumored to be recorded with producer Tony Platt, but if it exists it has yet to be released. Derek Welsh fronted a band called Rat Race in the mid 90's, and wrote poetry books. The group reformed in 2003 to tour and release their first new material in over ten years.
My Religion
McQueen Street Lyrics

Some little loser he's got something to prove
Well you know he's got a big mouth running
For someone standing so small
Phony man with his head in the sky trying to take it all
We're sick and tired of the words that you preach
Your threats and values and the garbage you teach
Some man with a Bible in his hand says we're living in sin
We're gonna do you in
We're gonna stomp down, roll your town, break you today
So if you're knocking our religion just get out of our way
Stomp down, roll your town, break you today
Don't go knocking my religion
Just get out of my way
I've seen them hurt and I've seen them in the shadows
It's such a crying shame
They've taken money from the crippled in the ghettos
So don't you play their game
They'll lock you up and they'll hang you out to dry
If the fat man wins
Speak you mind, you don't have to compromise
Because it ain't a sin
We're gonna stomp down, roll your town, break you today
So if you're knocking our religion just get out of our way
Stomp down, roll your town, break you today
Don't go knocking my religion
Just get out of my way
No pen, no lives
You've got to say what you feel inside
Break through the jaded minds
Don't tell us what we can do
We're gonna stomp down, roll your town, break you today
So if you're knocking our religion just get out of our way
Stomp down, roll your town, break you today
Don't go knocking my religion
Just get out of my way
You will never bring us down and you can twist it all around
You can try another way but there will come another day
Tell them what I've said and put a bullet through my head
Twist the arm of the law but you will never stop us all
You can start another war and you can draw another line
The only thing for sure, you won't rape another mind
We're gonna stomp down, roll your town, break you today
Religion
The lyrics to My Religion by McQueen Street display a strong anti-establishment sentiment directed towards organized religion and those who use it to control and manipulate others. The singer wakes up to the news of a self-righteous preacher who condemns those who don't conform to his ideals, and promises to take action against him. The song revolves around the idea of standing up for oneself and refusing to be silenced by those who use religion for their own gain.
The lyrics also touch upon issues of societal injustice, referencing the exploitation of the disadvantaged in impoverished areas. The singer recognizes the corruption at play and urges listeners to break through the "jaded minds" and speak their truth. The overarching message is one of defiance in the face of oppressive forces, whether they be religious figures or societal structures.
Overall, My Religion is a powerful statement on the dangers of blindly following authority and the need for individual agency and resistance. It speaks to a sense of frustration and disillusionment with organized religion and its role in perpetuating inequality and injustice.
