yeah, amazing funny and sad. I went to see her at a book reading. It was really crowded so i couldn't get in the bookstore. When she got on the stage she said something like "oh no, all those people who can't get in... IM ROOTING FOR YOU GUYS!"

What total garbage. There is no hidden or deep meaning. You people can flog yourselves in your mother's basements and talk about how "deep" that scene is all you want, but in the end, its simply not entertaining, nor thought-provoking. It's a goldfish falling off a car; With a very large and unneeded sprinkling of melodrama.

What I got from this scene was that they were projecting their emotional state onto the fish. Such a bizarre egotistical expression of “love” for the fish, (bullshit that she truly felt love, and it is obvious the fish cannot interpret English so her testimony of love was pure ego and virtue signaling) which is why it’s kind of funny because it’s clearly ridiculous and a great depiction of how we take ourselves too seriously even though most of the time we don’t contribute to any “goodness” in the world to justify thinking so highly of our opinions and beliefs. They turn their focus from driving and really obsess over this fish and his fate. Why were they so confident that the fish had a very slim chance of survival? Inflated sense of their own intelligence or judgment? Possible… and why (if they were so sure the fish was toast) did they not say something more likely to save the fish when he rolled up next to the car? Why did they not try at all? Disgraceful to say you love something and yet do very little to preserve it’s very life when you clearly have so much more power than your exhibiting. They are sure the only choice is acceptance. The only way to get through their front row seat to that fish’ death is to do nothing and pretend that’s all they could have done. Yet, they still take the time to really appreciate the fish, but at the end of the day it’s just a damn fish and the person she really wants to say you are loved to is herself, perhaps out of the mouth of someone who she wishes would love her. There’s a layer of learning to accept how things are and to not try to have control over life because life moves on it’s own terms and we exhaust ourselves when we try to control every tiny thing like whether or not a fish in a bag dies. But there’s also some obvious character defects here which are thinly veiled on purpose to highlight some of the shittier aspects of being human. The director shows how we sometimes think we know best or we know everything and this is depicted when the fish almost doesn’t die because an unexpected traffic anomaly occurred instead of just one of the two options the guy says out loud (basically his lazy assessment was that if they stop, the fish will go flying, and even if they slow down, the fish will go flying) but who’s to say the bag wouldn’t have bounced nicely or that the water would have gotten too hot in the sun or even that their involvement didn’t ironically cause the fishes death. Like who is to say anything about anything at anytime and who are you if you just watch life pass you by thinking you already know how it’s going to end, you don’t. And that’s lame. Next time, remember you don’t know anything and if you feel called to save the fish, try to save the fish. But if you don’t care if the fish lives or dies, stop stroking your ego by sending thoughts and prayers. Just keep your eye on the road. You can’t care about everything.
