Roadkill
Meanstreak Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Roadkill
You're speeding down the road with living on your mind
This travesty you're leading is deceiving you will find
Just when you think you've had enough you think you've had your fill
You turn the corner there it lies
Poor little roadkill

(Chorus - Everybody sing along now!) HEY - TIME
IS WASTED, HEY - TIME IS WASTED

Your conscience full of gulit as you pass the corpse on by
You start to wonder what its like & how it feels to die
Flashbacks of Vietnam the training sergeant's drill
Murdered comrades strewn about
Just like the ROADKILL

Chorus:

Your term of existence left some lines upon your face
Welts of dishonesty of the bloody human race
People in their masses forget with drugs & oills
Sins left upon the body of the
Poor little ROADKILL

Chorus:

So Come forward - step in line & come & meet your fate
Cause that's not your mother's chicken dinner lying on your plate
It's mankind's distorted view frying on the grill

Behold the future from the eyes of the
Poor little ROADKILL

Overall Meaning

The song "Roadkill" by Meanstreak speaks of the dangers of living a life of excess and recklessness. The first verse talks of a person speeding down the road, consumed by the rush of living, and leading a life that is ultimately deceiving. The second verse delves deeper into the person's psyche, with them feeling guilty as they pass the corpse of an animal on the road, wondering how it feels to die. Here, the lyrics paint a vivid picture of a person who is struggling to come to terms with the consequences of their actions.

The lyrics also make references to war and the atrocities committed in the name of power and control. The line "flashbacks of Vietnam, the training sergeant's drill" highlights the pain and trauma that soldiers go through in war. The "murdered comrades strewn about" refers to the loss of life and how easily it can be taken away.

The chorus of the song - "Hey - time is wasted" - is a stark reminder that time is precious and should not be wasted on excess and recklessness. The lyrics of this song reveal that sometimes, individuals get lost in the pursuit of living life to the fullest, that they fail to see how their actions can impact others.

@dregeye

I like this band, however, I have been listening to LOVEBITES lately. (All female thrash/metal from Japan)
For a glimpse of how they play, try this:
pause this video, reset the speed to 1.5
click on the timestamp for "It seems to me" 14:22 and listen...
And if you doubt what I'm suggesting, RESET THE SPEED to "normal"
then click this link for LOVEBITES latest LIVE concert video, "Holy War" from "Five of a Kind"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgAxpEpEcno
Of course the sped-up Meanstreak lacks the dbl-kick work of haruna in LOVEBITES and makes the vocals a bit rushed.
YouTube algorithm keeps the pitch of everything the same.
I got here via LOVEBITES' bassist, miho, (they put band name all caps, members all lowercase) who shared on Twitter Kiko Loureiro's (Angra, now Megadeth) new instrumental album "Open Source" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkj1nt_u2U8
Someone in comments on that mentioned John Petrucci who I looked up in Wikipedia to read of influences, finding that he and two other Dream Theatre band members had married three of the women in this band (!), looked and found this album.
This is not intended as a putdown of Meanstreak at all, not even a comparison.
(just a ploy to lead you to LOVEBITES, since LOVEBITES' miho started me on the trek that led me here...)
A (2019) comment suggested Meanstreak "get back together and put out some new stuff!!! I think the time is finally right!!"
I would say the time IS right, for all original LOVEBITES and the uplifting theme of their lyrics combined with power-metal, progressive-metal, speed-metal, thrash, an occasional hard-rock song, the rare power-ballad, their only 'cover' being an excerpt of a Chopin piece by classically trained pianist/guitarist miyako.
Don't forget to reset the speed to "normal" before going to the LOVEBITES song "Holy War"
btw, you will likely notice many '80s metal influences, which they OWN openly, praising and honoring their heavy-metal heritage and inspiration. They toured as support for DragonForce in 2019 and the vocalist, asami, guested with Lzzy Hale's Halestorm whose song "Love Bites (So Do I)" was the inspiration for their name.
You're welcome...

Thanks, bro.

Juan Revilla Thanks!!!! 💙

@Raskudriavy

@patrickallen8787

Damn, Dream Theater's wives kick ass!!

Wonder if Petrucci later was inspired by his wife's solo on Roadkill, I swear I have heard something similar on some DT song.

@EruditeFuzz

Goddamn, why do female thrash acts have to be so fuckin' hard to find? This shit is amazing.

@math534

People and their gender roles are shit. It's not a "lady" thing to do and that pushes a lot of people away unfortately.

@EruditeFuzz

@Ethan Stam Nah. I've listened to a lot of female metal bands. Most of them suck. And there's been no push to keep women out of metal either. The good acts are revered. Even the bad ones get more than their fair share of praise, despite the cliches, copycatting and lack of any innovation at all.

Their such thing as it just not being something most women are into. It's not sexist for that to be the case.

@theMETALDOVE

had a copy of this album 100 years ago. so happy to find it uploaded. such a killer band. always reminds me of classic OVERKILL.
