Where Angels Sing
Meat Loaf Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This song was dedicated to Valeria M.
Meet me downtown on the corner.
I'll be waiting in a big yellow cab.
Don't bring a suitcase.
You won't need a thing.
There'll be no worries.
Where angels sing.
I got my ticket in my hand.
Oh, the price is paid in full.
No man can stop me.
Their words won't sting you.
No dreams will haunt you.
Where angels sing.
I get so weary.
On this troubled road.
Unlock these chains.
And gently rock me home.
Beyond the clouds and the rain
Where angels sing.
Where angels sing.
Where lies can't hurt you.
The flesh desert me.
No in or out.
No loss or doubt.
No living with or doing without.
Where money ain't the power king.
And kindness is the most precious thing.
Where angels sing.
Oh, where angels sing.
Where time means nothing.
No hustle.
No one rushing.
No dark of night.
No hate or spite.
No wrong or right.
No day or night.
No towns or no cities.
There's no pain, no pity.
Where hunger is no longer.
And a good man just gets stronger.
Where angels sing.
Where angels sing.
Where angels sing.
Where angels sing.

Where angels sing.
Where angels sing.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Meat Loaf's song "Where Angels Sing" speak of transcendence from earthly struggles to a heavenly realm where everything is beautiful and serene. The song starts by inviting somebody to meet him downtown on a corner, where he'll be waiting in a big yellow cab. The person is asked not to bring a suitcase as there's no need for anything. The singer has his ticket in his hand, and the price has been paid in full. He's confident that no man can stop him, and he won't be stung by their words. There are no worries in the place where angels sing, and no dreams will haunt them. The repetition of the phrase "Where angels sing" throughout the song emphasizes how important it is to the singer that whoever they're addressing understands this.

As the song progresses, the singer acknowledges how weary he is on the troubled road of life, and he asks to be unlocked from his chains and gently rocked home. He talks about transcending beyond the clouds and the rain to a place where there are no lies that can hurt you. The fleshly desires that plague us on earth no longer apply, and everything is pure and good. There's no hunger, no pain, no pity, and the most precious thing is kindness. Embedded in the song's lyrics is a spiritual yearning for a better world beyond this earthly plane, where everything is perfect, and there are no more struggles.

Played this and Alan Jackson's Amazing Grace in a loop as my husband was dying. In our home, with me holding him and telling him how much I loved him and thanking God for our 41 years together. 10-29-2018 at 11:00 a.m. my one and only left his broken, suffering body and went home to Father.
