You're Right I Was Wrong
Meat Loaf Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Should've listened when you said I'd miss you
Should've listened but I could not hear
You said I'd want you back
I said not a chance
Now I can see I was so blind

You're right I was wrong
To ever leave you
I made a mistake
I'm sorry now

You're right I was wrong
To ever let you go
Now I know, now I know
You're right I was wrong

Couldn't see it when I had you with me
Couldn't see that I had everything
And now I see it clear
And you're not here
You said someday I'd change my mind

You're right I was wrong
To ever leave you
I made a mistake
I'm sorry now

You're right I was wrong
To ever let you go
Now I know, now I know
You're right I was wrong

If I could have one more chance to hold you
I would keep you here in my arms
And never let you go
Because now I know

You're right I was wrong
To ever leave you
I made a mistake
I'm sorry now

You're right I was wrong
To ever let you go

Now I know, baby now I know
You're right I was wrong

Overall Meaning

Meat Loaf's song "You're Right I Was Wrong" is about regret and realizing the mistake one has made after it is too late to fix it. The song is from the perspective of someone who did not listen to their partner's warning about the consequences of their actions. The singer admits to being blind to their partner's love and care for them, and not realizing what they had until it was gone. They are now filled with regret and acknowledge that they made a mistake by leaving their partner. The song conveys both sadness and hope, as the singer wishes for a chance to make things right and convince their partner to come back to them.

The chorus of the song, "You're right I was wrong, to ever leave you, I made a mistake, I'm sorry now," reflects the singer's sense of guilt and remorse. The verse "If I could have one more chance to hold you, I would keep you here in my arms and never let you go, because now I know" shows that the singer has learned from their mistake and is willing to do whatever it takes to make things right.

The song is a classic power ballad, showcasing Meat Loaf's powerful vocals and passionate delivery. It was written by Diane Warren, a prolific songwriter who has written hits for artists such as Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Aerosmith. The song was released as a single in 1996 and appeared on Meat Loaf's album "Welcome To The Neighborhood." The song was well received by critics and fans alike, and has become a fan favorite.

He made a mistake and told me to leave. Five yrs later, last year, i was cleaning my mailbox, found an old e-mail of his with pics and sent it back to him with a few sweet, funny sentences.Finding out we're both single. Yes! We'll see how it'll go. He learned from the past. When i sent him the e-mail i followed my heart. Nothing bad could come out of it. Life is too short. When we're old we don't regret what we did but what we didn't do! Meatloaf sings about thàt too in another song.
