Rising Sun
Medicine Head Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come on down the road before the sun
Get high in your heart and have some fun
Hey, cravin' like the way you look
You're open like a child's first book

Oh, when you speak it's just like a symphony
Oh, your fingers touch me with poetry
Don't underestimate what you mean to me

You're like a constant glimpse of the rising sun
You're like a constant glimpse of the rising sun

Come on baby, jump inside my truck
Don't worry, you know you got good luck

All you do is put your right foot out
That move'll show you what's all about

Overall Meaning

The essence of this song is about the joy of living in the moment and seizing the day. The lyrics describe the urge to hit the open road, to feel the warmth of the sun, and to be carefree. The singer encourages the listener to let go of their inhibitions and to indulge in the innocence of childhood, represented by the image of an open book. The singer finds the listener incredibly attractive and charming, even comparing their voice to a symphony and the touch of their fingers to poetry. The chorus emphasizes the power of the listener's presence, evoking the constant, life-giving energy of the rising sun.

The opening lines of the song create the impression of freedom and excitement, suggesting that the listener should drop everything and join in on an adventure. The line "Get high in your heart and have some fun" could be interpreted in various ways, but the most obvious reading would be that the singer is urging the listener to find joy in their own heart and to have a good time. The verse "Hey, cravin' like the way you look/You're open like a child's first book" adds to this impression, suggesting that the listener has a fresh, dynamic energy that is both attractive and inspiring.

I love this song and the band, I was 14 when this was released, I'm 63 now and I know it sounds like a cliché, but they just don't make them like this anymore, what an era .

@gagidroid776... I got married on August 18th 1973 and this was the last song I heard at home before I walked out holding my Dad's arm to go to church...sadly, I'm still with my husband but no longer love him, but this song will always take me back to that day.
