Just One of Those Things
Meg & Dia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Give me a minute
I need a second
Got to breathe there
It's Just one of those things

wish I could tell you
How much I need you
And how much you
need me to go

Please don't listen
to what I'm gonna tell you
Look in my eyes and know
I simply had to give up
But I didn't let go without struggle
you know, I still love you
It's just, just one of those things

I know I made it seem
Like all was written down
And I hid all my pain
And now I bring it out

And you'll be scared at first
'cause it's such an ugly blow
I don't know which is worse
to learn or not to know

Please don't listen
to what I'm gonna tell you
Look in my eyes and know
I simply had to give up
But I didn't let go without struggle
you know, I still love you
It's just, just one of those things

Please don't listen
to what I'm gonna tell you
Look in my eyes and know
I simply had to give up
But I didn't let go without struggle
you know, I still love you
It's just, it's just one of those things

I tried to tell you a million times
That you have always been one of us
I tried to tell you a million times
You have always been one of us

Please don't listen
(I tried to tell you a million times
That you have always been one of us)
Please don't listen
(I tried to tell you a million times

That you have always been one of us)
Please don't listen....

Overall Meaning

The song "Just One of Those Things" by Meg & Dia is a heart-wrenching ballad about the pain of letting go despite still feeling love for someone. The opening lines speak of needing a moment to breathe, indicating the gravity of the situation the singer is facing. The second verse alludes to their desire to express their feelings to their partner, but knowing that it's better to part ways. The chorus repeats the sentiment that they still love their partner, but it's just "one of those things" that they have to go through.

The bridge of the song is particularly emotional, with the singer admitting that they tried to hide their pain and put on a brave face, but now they're letting it all out. They warn their partner that they might be scared of the "ugly blow" they're about to receive, but it's better to know the truth than to continue living in ignorance. The final lines of the song reinforce the idea that the singer has always loved their partner and considers them part of their group, but they have to accept that it's time to move on.

Overall, "Just One of Those Things" is a poignant exploration of the complexities of love and how difficult it can be to let go of someone, even when it's the right thing to do.

You can get their EP "What Is It? A Fender Bender." On Amazon/Itunes(I just got it today!) They had a self-released album called "Our Home Is Gone" but they only made about 1000 and sold them by hand. I don't think they had their own copy until it was given to them by a fan who went great lengths to find one for them. (I heard it in some outdoor interview when they were doing a warped tour, something like that) Their new album comes out sometime in the next few months. Let me know if I helped
