Didn't Wanna Get So Low But I Had To
Meg Mac Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I go back to where I am losing
Lying down, I can't stand it
You cannot lose it when you knew it
All along through me

On my own through me
On my own
I didn't hear it when you said it
On my own, that I would like it
I guess I'll leave you when I'm leaving
My poor, poor soul, through me

On my own through me
On my own

Oh, I feel it going down
When I'm home I'm not around
Oh, I feel it going down
When I'm home I'm not around

Oh love this crying for a reason
Well it's all gone and I can taste it
And of the time that I spent losing
It's on my own, through me

On my own through me
On my own

Oh, I feel it going down
When I'm home I'm not around
Oh, I feel it going down
When I'm home I'm not around

Didn't want to get so low but I had to
I didn't want to get so low but I had to
I didn't want to get so low but I had to
I didn't want to get so low but I had to

And I'm good at lying down
Yeah, good at lying down, ooh
Put me down
Well I'm good at lying down

Oooh, but I had to
I didn't want to get so low but I had to

I didn't want to get so low but I had to
I didn't want to get so low but I had to

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Meg Mac's song "Didn't Wanna Get So Low But I Had To" reflect feelings of regret, self-blame, and emotional confusion. The lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling with the realization that they have lost something or someone that they knew was important to them, but neglected to address until it was too late. The opening lines, "I go back to where I am losing, lying down, I can't stand it" express a sense of being trapped or stuck in a state of despair, where the singer is unable to move forward from the loss they have encountered.

The repeated phrase "on my own through me" emphasizes the sense of isolation and personal responsibility that the singer feels for the situation they are in. They seem to blame themselves for not heeding the warnings that were given, including those that came from within themselves. The lines, "I didn't hear it when you said it, on my own that I would like it" suggest that the singer had doubts or concerns about the situation but chose to ignore them, leading to their current state of sorrow.

The chorus, "Oh, I feel it going down, when I'm home I'm not around" captures the sensations of drowning, feeling overcome with emotion, and disconnected from reality. The final repetition of the phrase, "I didn't wanna get so low, but I had to" expresses a sense of resignation that the singer cannot change the outcome or their past behavior, and must accept the pain they are feeling. Overall, the song conveys a sense of regret, loss, and self-blame in the face of an insurmountable emotional challenge.

Awesome. Still waiting for her to get big. She’s too talented to go unnoticed much longer.

Connor G I agree she has talent, however Im not sure her voice has mega stardom potential ?? Ive two young music students who can mimic her voice pitch to the note πŸ‘

@MrAwiggs

Yep - mimic. But she did it first. You can't copy someone else's uniqueness and expect that to carry. I think she is a star in the making - saw her last night and she is the real deal. And who writes the songs afterall..? Lyrics are superb.

@CracKlENutt

To not give in Singing to a commercial sound. This Β is what makes part of Meg Mac herself. rather stay part indie to keep her to the true instruments and sound she that makes her so beautiful. Only take someone to do a cover with a commercial sound like Flumes to have playing behind them to go huge. Meg Mac Luv your talent. To staying to your own feel of the music makes you and your producers so Gem
