Inspired by artists like Adele and Amy Winehouse and classic soul acts like Sam Cooke and Ray Charles, her star rose throughout 2014 as she continued releasing singles, toured, and prepared her debut EP, MEGMAC, which was released in June 2015. The EP enjoyed plenty of success in Australia, earning her an ARIA Music Award nomination and spawning the hit single "Never Be."
Her full-length debut, Low Blows, arrived in the summer of 2017 and was preceded by a single of the same name.
In October 2018, Mac released the single "Give Me My Name Back" which she told Billboard "is a song for those who have suffered emotional and physical abuse; it's for the women who are standing up and speaking out, those discriminated against in the LGBTQI community, the indigenous people of Australia and the children abused by the church. For everyone who has lost an important part of themselves and need to reclaim their identity, dignity and self-worth in order to move forward with their lives.

I've taken off my face
And you won't like it
I haven't seen anyone in days
But it's best this way
You see I don't like it
Don't wanna be anyone again
See I don't like it
Baby, I have nothing left and
You took my money and you took my friends back
To where I never
Low blows, man up
It's all good, man up
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
Low blows, man up
It's all good, man up
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
Working on my own
Until the work gets cold
That's when I don't like it
But I can't leave anything alone
And I won't say no
Even when I wanna
I never see the end of anything
'Cause I don't like it
Baby, I have nothing left and
You took my money and you took my friends back, oh
To where I never
Low blows, man up
It's all good, man up
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
Low blows, man up
It's all good, man up
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
But I don't like it
And I never liked it like that
Oh ohoh oh
Oh oh oh, oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Whoah ooh
Baby, I have nothing left and
You took my money and you took my friends back
To where I never
To where I never
To where I never
Low blows, man up
It's all good, man up
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
Low blows, man up
It's all good, man up
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
But I don't like it
No I don't like it
And I never liked it
And I never liked it like that
In Meg Mac's song "Low Blows," the singer seems to be addressing someone who has hurt her deeply. She sings, "you took my money and you took my friends back to where I never," suggesting that this person has betrayed her and left her completely alone. The singer also admits that she has changed in response to this betrayal. She sings, "I've taken off my face and you won't like it," indicating that she has shed her previous self-image and is showing her true self. Furthermore, she declares that she "doesn't want to be anyone again." This could suggest that the singer has been hurt by this person in the past and is determined to maintain her newfound authenticity and not return to the person she used to be.
The repetition of the phrase "man up" throughout the song suggests that the singer is perhaps addressing a man who has wronged her. However, the lyrics also reveal that the singer is holding back her feelings in some ways, singing "I don't say much when I don't like it." This could indicate that the singer is attempting to remain stoic in the face of heartbreak or that she is afraid to share her true feelings with this person.
Overall, "Low Blows" is a powerful song about the pain of betrayal and the challenge of staying true to oneself in the face of hurt.

You coming round too late
You're showing up when it's already too late
I've taken off my face
I'm no longer pretending to be someone I'm not
And you won't like it
What you see may not be what you want
I haven't seen anyone in days
I've been alone for days
But it's best this way
This is for the best
You see I don't like it
I'm not enjoying this situation
Don't wanna be anyone again
I don't want to pretend to be someone else again
See I don't like it
I really don't like it
Baby, I have nothing left and
I'm completely devoid of anything
You took my money and you took my friends back
You've taken away my money and my close relationships
To where I never
To a place where I've never been before
Low blows, man up
Take the hits and be strong
It's all good, man up
It'll be okay, be strong
'Cause I don't say much when I don't like it
I tend to stay quiet when I'm not happy with something
Working on my own
I'm working alone
Until the work gets cold
Until the work is no longer worthwhile
That's when I don't like it
I don't enjoy it when my work goes cold
But I can't leave anything alone
I have to keep working on things
And I won't say no
I won't turn down the work
Even when I wanna
Even when I don't want to do it
I never see the end of anything
I never reach the finish line
'Cause I don't like it
Because I really don't like it
But I don't like it
I really don't like it
And I never liked it like that
I never enjoyed it when things were like that
