Dave Mustaine was an early member of the band Metallica, and helped pen tracks that wound up on their first two albums. In 1983, Mustaine was let go from the group by Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield due to personal conflicts and substance abuse. He would be replaced by Kirk Hammett, guitarist for the Bay Area thrash band Exodus, who remains with the band to this day. Dave felt slighted and vowed to make his own band, which would be even faster and heavier than Metallica. Mustaine picked the name "Megadeth" from a pamphlet by California senator Alan Cranston that read: "The arsenal of megadeath can't be rid no matter what the peace treaties come to."
In 1985, Megadeth released their debut album, Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!, on the independent record label Combat Records, to moderate success. It caught the attention of bigger labels, which led to Megadeth signing with Capitol Records. Their first major-label album, Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, was released in 1986 and was a major hit with the underground metal scene. Band members' substance abuse issues and personal disputes had brought Megadeth negative publicity during the late 1980s. Nonetheless, the band went on to release a number of platinum-selling albums, including So Far, So Good... So What! (1988), Rust in Peace (1990), and Countdown to Extinction (1992). These albums, along with worldwide tours, brought them public recognition.
Megadeth has had numerous guitarists, drummers and bassists throughout its 39-year career, with Mustaine being the only remaining original member of the group. The band temporarily disbanded in 2002 when Mustaine suffered an arm injury and re-established in 2004 without longtime bassist David Ellefson, who had taken legal action against him. Ellefson settled out of court and rejoined the band in 2010, but was fired in 2021 amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Megadeth's current lineup includes Mustaine, bassist James LoMenzo, guitarist Kiko Loureiro and drummer Dirk Verbeuren.
Megadeth earned platinum certifications in the United States for six of its sixteen studio albums, and has received twelve Grammy nominations. Megadeth won its first Grammy Award in 2017 for the song "Dystopia" in the Best Metal Performance category. The band's mascot, Vic Rattlehead, regularly appears on album artwork and live shows. Megadeth has hosted its own music festival, Gigantour, several times since July 2005, and held its first MegaCruise in October 2019.

Kingmaker
Megadeth Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Persecuting their 'own kind', there's nothing you can say
Don't ask anyone for help, they won't know what to do
If you try, if you don't die, you'll end up black and blue
Epidemic of addiction, worshipping the pill
Drown them all with alcohol, anything for thrills
Precious life goes up in smoke, going nowhere fast
I want everything that makes me feel alright
That feels alive, don't ask me why
I want everything, right before my eyes
I can't deny I want to be the King!
Kingmaker!
Searching for an answer, but you see you're all alone
Mom and Daddy's lights are on but nobody's home
They glorify their tortured life; they talk of days like this
Sentencing their children, when they need to eat a fist
Narcotics have enslaved them; now it's coming after you
Pearls of wisdom hit the floor, there's nothing you can do
Out of control, you sell your soul, so blind, you couldn't see
Ten feet tall, it made you crawl; it's better you than me
I want everything that makes me feel alright
That feels alive, don't ask me why
I want everything, right before my eyes
I can't deny I want to be the King!
Kingmaker!
I want everything that makes me feel alright
That feels alive, don't ask me why
I want everything, right before my eyes
I can't deny I want to be the King!
It makes me feel alive, I want everything
It makes me feel alright, I want everything
The things I can't deny, I want everything
I want to be the King!
The lyrics of Megadeth's song Kingmaker is a commentary on the deteriorating state of society and the destructive tendencies of humans. The first verse talks about the generation of people who are caught in the darkness of their own lives, persecuting their "own kind," and refusing to seek help. The second verse continues the theme of addiction, alcoholism, and the glorification of a tortured life. The chorus expresses the desire of the singer to have everything that makes him feel alive and happy, even if it comes at the cost of others. He wants to be the "King" of his world, even if it means stepping on others to get there.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of the cycle of addiction and how it can engulf entire families. Children of addicted parents are depicted as being neglected and left to fend for themselves. The second verse talks about how narcotics enslave people, and the pearls of wisdom (lessons learned from experience) are wasted. The singer acknowledges that he is addicted and wants to be the king of his world, regardless of the consequences.
Kingmaker is a song that provides a harsh commentary on addiction and the selfish tendencies of humans. It shows how people can become trapped in their own darkness and how the cycle of addiction can spread to others. The chorus, with its repetitive lines, highlights the singer's unwavering desire to fulfill his personal needs and aspirations, even if it means stepping on others to get there. In summary, the song Kingmaker by Megadeth is a commentary on the destructive tendencies of addiction and how it can impact society as a whole.

Came to hear the "Pathetic Intro" that Dave claimed the bass opening to be and now I think it's obvious he just really didn't like Ellefson after a while cause that intro is killer!

I thought it was cool just like the bass line to go to hell. Dave give others a chance to write .
