Sweating Bullets
Megadeth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hello me, meet the real me
And my misfit's way of life
A dark black past is my
Most valued possession
Hindsight is always 20-20
But looking back it's still a bit fuzzy
Speak of mutually assured destruction?
Nice story, tell it to Reader's Digest!

Feeling paranoid
True enemy or false friend?
Anxiety's attacking me and
My air is getting thin
I'm in trouble for the things
I haven't got to yet
I'm chomping at the bit and my
Palms are getting wet, sweating bullets

Hello me, it's me again
You can subdue but never tame me
It gives me a migraine headache
Sinking down to your level
Yea, just keep on thinking it's my fault
And stay an inch or two outta kicking distance
Mankind has got to know
His limitations

Feeling claustrophobic
Like the walls are closing in
Blood stains on my hands and
I don't know where I've been
I'm in trouble for the things
I haven't got to yet
I'm sharpening the axe and my
Palms are getting wet, sweating bullets

Well, me, it's nice talking to myself
A credit to dementia
Some day you too will know my pain
And smile its blacktooth grin
If the war inside my head
Won't take a day off I'll be dead
My icy fingers claw your back
Here I come again

Feeling paranoid
True enemy or false friend?
Anxiety's attacking me
And my air is getting thin
Feeling claustrophobic
Like the walls are closing in
Blood stains on my hands
And I don't know where I've been

Once you committed me
Now you've acquitted me
Claiming validity
For your stupidity
I'm chomping at the bit
I'm sharpening the axe

Here I come again, whoa
Sweating bullets

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Megadeth’s “Sweating Bullets” are about the lead singer Dave Mustaine’s struggle with mental illness, particularly his battle with schizophrenia. The song starts with “Hello me, meet the real me” - this is Mustaine speaking to himself, trying to confront his true self and the demons he faces inside his own head. He refers to his “misfit’s way of life”, implying that he doesn’t fit in and is struggling with his own identity. Mustaine says “A dark black past is my most valued possession”, which suggests that he has a lot of emotional baggage, and that this is what makes him who he is. He laments that “Hindsight is always 20-20, but looking back it’s still a bit fuzzy”, suggesting that he struggles to make sense of his own life experiences.

The chorus, “Feeling paranoid, true enemy or false friend? Anxiety’s attacking me and my air is getting thin”, suggest that Mustaine is struggling with anxiety attacks, and is unsure of whether the people around him are actually his friends or his enemies. He talks about being in trouble for things he hasn’t done yet, and how he’s “chomping at the bit” and “sharpening the axe”, suggesting that the anger is building inside him and he is on the brink of something dangerous. In the second verse, Mustaine says “You can subdue but never tame me”, implying that he is a wild and untameable person. He also says “Sinking down to your level”, so he is talking to somebody else, implying that their behaviour is dragging him down. There are references to violence and murder in the song, with references to “sharpening the axe” and “blood stains on my hands” - this builds on the earlier references to Mustaine’s mental instability, and suggests that he is at risk of committing violent or dangerous acts.

@Ammi553

I counted every single Dave Mustaine in the video and did the math and this song has an average rate of 9.5 DMPM (Dave Mustaines Per Minute), the highest out of every Megadeth song so far, with all the other songs coming in second with only 1DMPM.

The highest amount of Dave Mustaines is in the 3rd section with a whopping 15 DMPM.

0:00-1:00 10 Dave Mustaines
1:00-2:00 10 Dave Mustaines
2:00-3:00 1 Dave Mustaine
3:00-4:00 15 Dave Mustaines
4:00-4:20 2 Dave Mustaines (if multiplied by 3 to reach one minute, the DMPM becomes 6 making the song's DMPM 8.4)

Edit: in the 3rd section can be added 2 extra Dave Mustaines because of the hand puppets, making the section's DMPM 17)
