Shortly before graduating from Carnegie Mellon, Hilty auditioned for the part of Glinda in the hit musical, Wicked. After graduating, she moved to New York City, and in mid-2004, she made her Broadway debut in the show. She originally served as the standby for Jennifer Laura Thompson before taking over the principal role on May 31, 2005. She played Glinda for a year, ending her run on May 28, 2006, having been replaced by Kate Reinders, the original Glinda in the Chicago production of Wicked.
Hilty recently starred in a musical called Vanities at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts in Mountain View with TheatreWorks. She reprised her role as Glinda in the national tour of Wicked from September to December 2006, for a 4-month stint in the Portland, Oregon and Seattle stops, as well as the Toronto stop alongside former Broadway co-star Shoshana Bean. She is currently playing Glinda again alongside former co-star, Eden Espinosa, in the open-ended Los Angeles production of Wicked. Her contract is active until November 2007.
In January 2007, it was announced that Hilty was cast in the role of Doralee Rhodes in the reading for a musical based on the 1980s workplace comedy 9 to 5. Official casting for the show has not been announced. [1]
Megan guest starred on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody as Enid on August 5, 2007. She also did the singing voice of Snow White in Shrek the Third.
Megan Hilty has a very large vocal range, and may be considered a whistle register singer, as she hits a high E in "No One Mourns the Wicked", and the optional F6 in "Thank Goodness" during her performances of Wicked.
Second Hand White Baby Grand

It was out of tune but still I learned to play
And with each note we both would smile forgetting who we are
And all the pain would simply fly away
Something secondhand and broken still can make a pretty sound
Even if it doesnâČt have a place to live
Oh, the words were left unspoken when my Mama came around
Through missing keys and broken strings the music was our own
Until the day we said our last goodbyes
The baby grand was sent away
A child all alone, to pray somebody else would realize
That something secondhand and broken still can make a pretty sound
Even if it doesn't have a place to live
Oh, the words are still unspoken now that MamaâČs not around
But that Secondhand White Baby Grand still has something beautiful to give
For many years the music had to roam
Until we found a way to find a home
So now I wake up every day and see her standing there
Just waiting for a partner to compose
And I wish my mother still could hear that sound beyond compare
I'll play her song till everybody knows
That something secondhand and broken still can make a pretty sound
Don't we all deserve a family room to live
Oh, the words canâČt stay unspoken until everyone has found
That Secondhand White Baby Grand that still has something beautiful to give
I still have something beautiful to give
The lyrics of Megan Hilty's Second Hand White Baby Grand tell the story of a piano that was passed down through generations. The piano was bought secondhand by the singer's mother from a silent movie star. Although the piano was out of tune, the singer's mother taught her how to play it, and they played together, forgetting their pains while the music played. The singer acknowledges that something secondhand and broken can still create a beautiful sound, even if it has nowhere to go.
The singer talks about how the baby grand was sent away when her mother died, and it was left to "roam" for many years. She eventually found it and brought it home, where it now stands waiting for someone to compose with. The singer wishes her mother could hear the beautiful sound it creates and promises to keep playing her song until everyone knows that something secondhand and broken still has something beautiful to give.
The lyrics of this song are touching and beautiful, conveying the message of how something old and seemingly useless can still have value and create beauty. It reminds us that everything and everyone deserves a chance to be heard and appreciated. The metaphor of the piano as something secondhand and broken yet still beautiful is a powerful one that resonates with many people.
