Raised by her father in the small town of Roberta, Georgia, Meiko first stepped in front of an audience at the age of eight, singing “White Christmas” for parishioners of a Southern Baptist church. At eighteen, Meiko left her hometown to showcase her talents to a wider audience. After a brief stop in Miami, she set down in Los Angeles and began her career in earnest, playing venues all over Southern California and writing at a prolific pace. She performed (and bartended) at Hollywood's Hotel Café (where she still performs regularly).
Meiko is one-quarter Japanese, on her maternal grandmother's side; in an attempt to get in touch with their Japanese heritage, she and her sister, designer Kelly Nishimoto, adopted the nicknames Meiko and Keiko.
Maybe Next Year

'Cause I've been a bad, a bad girl
I've made my bed, now I'm lying in it
Without a care, a care in the world
And I took his heart
I tore it apart
I left him outside in the cold
In the middle of town
I left him outside in the snow
I won't have no presents this year
'Cause I've been a bad, a bad girl
I've made my bed, now I'm lying in it
Without a care, a care in the world
And he took me in
He made me sin
And I never wanna go back again
So I did him in
I made it all end
Oh I never wanna go back again
Maybe next year I'll be good
Maybe next year I'll be better
Maybe next year I'll be good
Maybe next year I'll be better
Maybe next year I'll be good
Maybe next year I'll be better
Maybe next year I'll be good
Maybe next year I'll be better
Maybe next year I'll be good
Maybe next year I'll be better
Maybe next year I'll be good
Maybe next year I'll be better
In this song, Meiko expresses her belief that she has been too naughty to receive any presents from Santa Claus this year. She admits to being a "bad, bad girl," having broken someone's heart and leaving them out in the cold. She took someone in and made them "sin," but eventually left this person and caused their relationship to end.
Meiko's vocals are smooth and emotive, conveying her regret and wish to become a better person in the future. The chorus of the song showcases a hopeful tone, with her longing to be good and better in the following year, leaving all her regrets and mistakes behind in her past.
The song is relatable to anybody who has made mistakes and seen their impact on their lives. Meiko’s interpretation of Santa Claus is used as a symbol for the consequences we face for our mistakes, which may involve not getting what we want or feeling undeserving of good things.

Crush - Meiko - Lyrics
See you blowin' me a kiss it doesn't take a scientist
To understand what's goin' on baby
If you see somethin' in my eye, let's not overanalyze
Don't go too deep with it baby
So let it be what it'll be
Don't make a fuss and go crazy over you and me
Here's what I do, I'll play it loose
Not like we have a date with destiny
It's just a little crush
Not like I faint every time we touch
It's just some little thing
Not like everything I do depends on you
It's raisin' my adrenalin, you're bangin' on a heart of tin
Please don't make too much of it, baby
Say, "That we're forever more"
That's not what I'm lookin' for, all I can commit to is maybe
So let it be what it'll be
Don't make a fuss and go crazy over you and me
Here's what I do, I'll play it loose
Not like we have a date with destiny
It's just a little crush
Not like I faint every time we touch
It's just some little thing
Not like everything I do depends on you
Sha la la
Sha la la
Vanilla skies
White picket fences in your eyes
Vision of you and me
It's just a little crush
Not like I faint every time we touch
It's just some little thing
Not like everything I do
Depends on you
It's just a little crush
Not like I faint every time we touch
It's just some little thing
Not like everything I do
Depends on you
