1. Jake Williams a.k.a. Mekka, is a British dance DJ and remixer, who has recorded as JX and Rex the Dog.
2. Mekka, is a Muslim reggae artist who has done a lot to promote himself and his music through the web.

1) Jake's lucky break came in 1993 when the then 16-year-old sent a batch of demos to various record companies and Red Jerry of Hooj Choons invited him down to his studio. Soon after, he signed a deal with FFRR and under the guise of JX, enjoyed a raft of Top 10 hits with classic nineties dance anthems such as 'Son Of A Gun', 'You Belong To Me', 'There's Nothing I Won't Do' and 'Close To Your Heart', selling over half a million copies between them.
He was also involved with Planet Perfecto's 'Bullet In The Gun', which reached the UK Top 10 in 1999, and wrote 'Diamondback' under his Mekka alias in 2001.
He returned in 2004 with the release of 'Restless', again as JX; a track that was originally released as a promo in 2002 (under his Oblik moniker) but didn't receive a full release due to licensing issues regarding the use of samples from the main theme of the movie 'Exodus'.


2) Mekka is a Muslim reggae artist, born in Dammam, Saudi Arabia in 1978. The same year as he was born (1978) his parents fled from Iraq to Saudi Arabia. He was born in Saudi Arabia, raised in Libya and moved to Sweden at the age of five in 1983. His love for music and singing was present at an early age and he sang in the choir at the Qu’ranic school he attended. Mekka was one of the best reciters due to his voice, feel for rhythm and his keen interest in music and singing. He became hooked on reggae after a friend gave him a tape of various reggae artists, One Blood by Junior Reid being the first track. At the age of 14 that same friends took him to Stockholm where he worked as a DJ and was introduced to the old Swedish reggae elite at that time (Swing-a-ling and Trinity sound). It was from here that Mekka’s music career began. He got in touch with a man from Jamaica named Danny Dread (aka Goldteeth; a friend of Clint Eastwood and General Saint) who became his mentor and taught him patoa and the art of toasting. For those who are not familiar with these terms, patois is a language spoken in Jamaica and is a combination of African dialect and English. Toasting is a style of lyrical chanting which involves a DJ talking over a beat. At age 18 he was the second lead vocalist for the leading Swedish reggae band at that time - Cool Runnings and stayed with the band for about one year. At the age of 20 he became a second lead vocalist for a different Swedish band - Natural Way for about a year as well. In 2000 he decided he needed to develop as an artist and to find his own sound. From then until 2005 he locked himself inside his studio and did just that, creating a unique style and sound that is his trademark today. IN 2005 he signed an album deal and recorded eight tracks on an album titled Getting Stronger. In this same year he performed at the Uppsala Reggae Festival which helped him to be an established artist.

Some of his influences are: Allah, Prophet Muhammad, Bob Marley, Junior Reid, Lutan Fyah, Steel Pulse, and many more.

Albāni demanded in four or five of his books that the Noble Grave and the body of the Prophet ﷺ be brought out of the Mosque in Madīnah and its Green Dome destroyed (we seek refuge with Allāh!). Ibn al-‘Uthaymeen said: "We hope one day we'll be able to destroy the Green Dome of the Prophet Muhammad.” Similar statements by other key-preachers of the Khārijiyyah and Najdiyyah movement have led to the demolishment and destruction of shrines, graves, mosques and Islamic heritage by Saudi authorities as well as incited terrorist organisations to attack and perform suicide bombings at these blessed sites whose theological foundation is based on the methodology of Ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhāb, Albāni, Bin Bāz, Ibn al-’Uthaymeen etc.

The reality is, it is a Sunnah to build tombs/shrines/structures 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 (not to be confused with “on”) the graves of the Prophets, Salaf and Awliyā’. It’s also proven from Qur’ān which we’ll demonstrate and show how the Khārijiyyah/Wahhābiyyah sect contradicts our Holy Book.

Allāh جل جلاله states: “Thus did We make their case known to the people, that they might know that the promise of Allāh is true, and that there can be no doubt about the Hour of Judgement. Behold, they dispute among themselves as to their affair. (Some) said, "𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦": Their Lord knows best about them: those who prevailed over their affair said, "𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦."

Qādī Thanāullāh Pānipattī writes:
“After the death of Asḥāb al-Kahf a dispute occurred between Muslims and non-Muslims. The 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐬 said that 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐣𝐢𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 whereas the 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 said 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞. This Āyah is proving that Mosques could be made near graves of Awliyā’ in order to say Salāt in them. Tabarruk is also attained through the tombs of Awliyā’.”

Imām Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī:
“Some people said that the door of the cave should be closed so that nobody can enter it and the Aḥwāl (of Asḥāb al-Kahf) are kept hidden. Some people said that it is better to build a mosque at the door, this saying proves that these people were ‘Ā𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚̄𝐡 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫’. And when Allāh said {Those who prevailed over their affair} this refers to the ‘𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐫’ or the Awliyā’ of Asḥāb al-Kahf (i.e. their mu’minīn friends) or the leaders of town. {We will surely build a Mosque over them} so that we can ‘𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚̄𝐡’ in it and due to it we will ‘𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐡̣𝐚̄𝐛 𝐚𝐥-𝐊𝐚𝐡𝐟.’”

Imām Abū Ḥayyān al-Andalūsī:
“The person who told to make a building over them was a 𝐊𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧, she told to make a Church over them where deeds of Kufr can take place; however, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮’𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐧 stopped her and made a Masjid over there instead”

Imām Ḥākim:
“{Those who prevailed over their affair} refers to the 𝐌𝐮’𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐧 and they prevailed over this matter in that time.”

“{Those who prevailed over their affair} these are the 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 who said to build over them i.e. on the door of cave a Masjid so that ‘𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐤.’”

Imām Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūti:
“They were disputing, that is, the believers and the disbelievers, among themselves their affair, the affair of the youths, with regard to building something around them [as a monument]; so they, the disbelievers, said, ‘Build over them, that is, around them, a building, to cover them up; their Lord knows them best.’ Those who prevailed regarding their affair, the affair of the youths, 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 ‘We will verily set up over them, around them, a place of worship, for prayers to be performed therein.’ And this indeed took place at the entrance of the cave.”

Imām Ibn Jawzī:
“Ibn Qutaybah (raḥimahullāh) said that the Mufasirīn said: ‘People who made Masjid were the (𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦) 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐮’𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.’”

Imām Shihāb al-Dīn al-Khafājī:
“(Making mosque on cave) is 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚̄𝐥𝐢𝐡̣𝐞𝐞𝐧 just like It is mentioned in Tafsīr al Kashāf and it is 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 to pray inside this construction.”

Mullā ‘Alī al-Qārī:
“Anyone who builds a mosque near the grave of an upright person or prays in the tomb (Maqbara) or intends to ask for help through the Rūḥ of that upright person or intends to seek barakah from his left overs, if he does all that without the intention of giving him Ta’dhīm or doing Tawajjuh towards him (in prayer) ‘𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭, don't you see that Grave of Ḥadrat Ismā’īl (AS) is inside the Masjid ul Ḥarām near the Hateem and to pray there is superior than anything else’. However to pray near the graves is only forbidden when the soil becomes dirty because of Najāsah of deceased… In the Hateem near Ḥajr al Aswad and Mīzāb there are ‘graves of 70 Prophets.’”

Al-Qārī also states: “The early Muslims (Salaf) have considered it 𝐌𝐮𝐛𝐚̄𝐡̣ (𝐢.𝐞. 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝) to build over the graves of famous Mashaykh and ‘Ulamā so that people can visit them and sit there (easily).”

‘Allāmah Ismā’īl Ḥaqqī Bursevī:
“To build over the graves of the ‘Ulamā, Awliyā’ and the Sāliḥīn is a 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭 with this condition that the motive is that the greatness of these pious people must be made apparent so that the people don't think that it is an ordinary grave."

Ḥāfidh Ibn Kathīr
"When the people of the cave went into the cave, some people close to the entrance of the cave said, 'Build a mosque so we can worship Allah.' The people who said this were Muslims.”

I believe that most of the historical sites that have been destroyed are for practical reasons.

Statistics can be deceptive; most of the historical buildings destroyed are where the current mosque stands today.

One and a half billion people want to go to Mecca only 2 million can be there at a time and Haj happens only once a year.

If Saudi Arabia does not expand capacity they’ll be criticized for being exploitive.

There is demand for hotels with a view on the mosque, this is what we Muslims dream for and therefore it gets built.

All the infrastructure in Mecca is very practical, other religious sites like Medina are better preserved since the necessity is not as profound.

Very interesting video!...I always thought the giant clock tower and the neighboring buildings of the Abraj Al Bait looked out-of-place next to the Great Mosque. Having said that though - I completely understand why these kinds of large projects are necessary to support the millions of pilgrims that visit Mecca each year...but - as you mentioned near the end of the video - I am sure these mega infrastructure projects could've been done in a way that does not "bulldoze" history. I think the problem with how Saudi Arabia is approaching this is that the process is so "absolute" (i.e. there is no going back once these historical sites are gone). I might be wrong about this since the video did not specifically comment on this fact - but I am getting the impression that as these historical sites are paved over, there doesn't seem to be any attempt to officially record what is being lost (even if just through detailed imaging). I can't help but feel that at some time in the future (maybe generations from now), Saudi Arabia might end up regretting the destruction of part of its cultural heritage. There have been more than a few examples in history where - in hindsight - one generation sadly regrets the loss (accidental or deliberate) of cultural/architectural legacies that took place in a previous generation. And while a society can learn from this regret....that doesn't change the fact that what has been lost, has been lost forever.
